Jacob Barnhardt died Monday morning at 4:15 of pneumonia, after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Barnhardt was one of the old settlers here having taken a homestead just southeast of Hadar in the year 1866. He was born in Neusenselten, Germany, January 17, 1836, and came to America when he was a young man. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss. The children are all married: Charles, on the old homestead northeast of Hadar, August in Madison, and the daughter lives near Winside. Funeral services were held in the German Lutheran church at Hadar, conducted by Rev. J. P. Muller, of Norfolk. He was laid to rest in the German Lutheran cemetery just northeast of Hadar.
