I am a member of the Gilmer Genealogical Society. We have recently been contacted to help locate descendants of the BARNES family. Reason being, someone has bought the property that the private family cemetery is located on and wants to move the graves. We do no condone this measure and prefer that the cemeteries be cut out of the properties and left as is. We agreed to find descendants and to see how we can help with this matter. The cemetery is located in the city of Ellijay behind the davenport Hosiery plant (now closed). It is a small plot 28 x 24 feet and contains at least 3 unmarked graves (marked by fieldstones) and 3 marked graves:

Nancy Barnes b. July 1, 1830, died November 7, 1894
Corbin Barnes b. April 7, 1832, died Nov. 28, 1908
And Bettie Bryant wife of J. H. Bryant born 8-2-1865 and died May 12, 1887.

According to historical records the BARNES family came to Gilmer County Georgia around 1842 or prior. They lived in Leaches district which is the western side of the county. The historical Bryant family's name for Gilmer was spelled BRIANT.
