I am searching for the parents of my great grandfather, Francis Marion Barefield, who was born in Florida in 1846. There is documentation that he arrived in Texas around 1860 and then settled in Grimes County, Texas in 1870s where he purchased land. He married Ellen Singletary, whose parents were Robert and Gerena "Reeny" Singletary. Francis Marion and Ellen had four children that we know of: Thomas Owen Barefield (my paternal grandfather), Alice L Barefield, Ida Mae Barefield, and Garrett Alton Barefield. However, there may have been more children we are not aware of. My father, Billy Gene Barefield, Sr., and I have reached a brick wall and have been stuck for several years. We are desperate to find out the names of Francis Marion's parents! We have all of the information on the Barefield's from Francis Marion forward, but cannot seem to find any information backward past Francis Marion. We are willing to share whatever information we have with anyone else who may need it....We also have lots of information on the Singletary and the Meredith families. Any help anyone can give us will certainly be greatly appreciated!
