I have Colicchia on both my maternal grandparents sided of the family as follows:
1. Caterina Colicchia born 1734, married Giovanni Lamia
2. Giovanna Colicchia born 1840, married Vincenzo Ampola or Ambola
As far as I know, all of my Italian side of my family came from Marsala, Trapani, Sicily. My grandparents emigrated to Beloit, Wisconsin. Some others of the family may have come to the US, but that information died with my grandparents in the 70's. None of the names you sent are familiar to me.
Sandi

Hi,

My 2nd Great Grandmother's name was Rose Colicchia - born in about 1868 in Sicily. She married Santi Barbera and they came to NY in 1906. Their children were: Maria (my great grandmother), Phillip, Vivzenzina, Nick, Salvatore, Joseph, Santa, Julia and maybe an Angelina. Any of these names ring a bell to you?
Hello Achille, obviously I dont visit this site often enough to retrieve my messages. I don't have much information from my relatives in Sicily. I believe my Barberas were from Palermo. I understand they may have been involved with vineyards, but that's not a proven fact. My grandfather, Baldassare, came to the United States - I don't know when. I then sent for my grandmother - Brigitta (Angeleri). They settled in the Brooklyn, NY area where they lived and died. Basically, that's all I know. If you have any further information or would just like to chat occasionally, please email me at rammerel1@aol.com
Happy New Year 2011
Ellen Barbera Suri

A beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather , brother and uncle passed away on June 17, 2006. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Angelo and Angelina Barbera and had lived in the San Fernando Valley for the last 50 years. His accomplishments include playing with such famous ensembles as the Tom Talbert Orchestra, the Charlie Barnett Orchestra and most recently, the Lenny Burns Orchestra.
Hello
I googled my maiden name to see what would happen and saw the link to Ancestry.co. My maiden name was Anna DeCroti. I was also born in Brooklyn, and my grandfather's name was Thomas DeCroti, as was my biological father's. (Barbara, who also posted, is my half sister, from his second marriage. I know my grandfather worked as a singing waiter at Coney Island. My mom told me this. She and my real father were divorced decades ago. I found Barbara by googling my maiden name about 4 years ago. I do know Thomas DeCroti had a brother Anthony (Tony), and several sisters. Wonder if we are (as Barb mentioned) related. If you read this, contact me via my email (bugsbunny1946@hotmail.com) and let me know. DeCroti, after all, is not a common name. Barb also mentioned that her father (and mine, though I don't remember him at all) said that the family name was originally DeGregorio.

Barbera - grandmother's half siblings

I'm still researching my 2nd greatgrandfather, Francisco. His father was Carlo and his father was Antonino. Other surnames in his family were: Lamia (mother), Colicchia (grandmother), Anastasi (grandmother).
He was widowed, married my grandmother, then died 2-3 yrs. after my grandmother's birth. I'm looking for children of his first wife who would be half brothers/sisters to my grandmother (born 1899), but probably much older. I am in Haplogroup K1a - this may not be reflected in the the male line as it is mitochondrial. I do not have a source to test for YDNA in this line.

Hello jondealis - I'm not a blood relative but I have been searching for living descendents of your family. I have been look for the descendents of Anthony Barbieri and Felicia Mangino. I understand that Anthony came from a fairly sizable family. His father was Agostino Barbieri and his mother was Caterina Moglia. I have their marriage certificate from the New York Department of Records. Antonio has a sister named Margherita Barbieri (who also went by Maggie/Magdalene/Maddalena). I believe she was initially married to a man by the last name of Volpe (Vincent I think). This marriage was in the 1880's. After his death, she married my great great great grandfather Domenico Trimarco, formerly of 247 Grand St., where he ran a successful clothing store. After his death, she married Guisseppe Venturini. They lived at 54 Rutherford Place in NJ until her death in the mid 1930's (1934 I think). I know for certain that she had nieces with the last name Miller and Gallagher and that she is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in NJ.

I'm hoping to find descendents of the Barbieri family who might have photo of Margherita Barbieri and Domenico Trimarco (they had no children) or other information about them. Send me a message and we can compare notes. I can send you your grandparents marriage certificate. Many thanks and I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

THANKS!

KCW

Writing for my Mother Theresa Barbera who's Grand Father was Charles Barbera from Messina, Sicily, Italy. GrandFather settled in Somerville, Ma. 1st of many business was a Barber shop then properties in Union Sq. Believe he led a group of Italians The "Italian Community’s growth in Somerville and Father Nazareno Properzi. Italians were compelled to go into Boston to worship as they were unwelcome in the Irish Church of St. Joseph’s in Union Square. Father Properzi said his first mass in Somerville on June 6, 1915 in a storefront on Somerville Avenue." "That Storefront Was My Great Grand Father Charles Barberas) In less than a year, Father Properzi had purchased the land for the new church and broke ground a few months later" (Quotes are from the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission) Seems Barbara became Barbera at some point but still researching. Charles also had interests in the grape/wine business in Lodi California.
JimmyR- jimmywaterfrontre@yahoo.com

Hi Ellen Suri. I know this is a long shot, after such a long time since you posted your enquiry. I am a Barbera from Sicily, but i do have direct contact with a few of the relatives I have met, since going back and forth(almost yearly), after my SICILIAN BORN father passed away in 1998. I've been retracing and getting to know my "father's side" of the family, and have found the "BARBERA'S" to be of VERY sound and good background. It's very enriching to get to find out a little of OUR family's history and background. I'm looking forward to my next)extended) visit in 2009. Regards, Achille.

There was a Cossentino that lived in Lcananto Florida, and a Bosco that I took my Mother to see in Melborn Florida. My Grandmother had six childeren that I know of.
Subject: Greetings from Achille Barbera - presently on yearly vacation in Santa Teresa di Riva (Provincia di Messina), Sicily

Hi Ellen

My profound apologies for not having looked at, and subsequently not having answered your reply in Jan 2011.

A belated Happy New year to you & family.

I've heard from my deceased father, in the past, that we too had a Barbera or two, that emigrated to the States, decades ago.
My youngest sister moved from South Africa (where I presently reside), to North Carolina. Her family has grown with their firstborn being born in the US, and they're extremely happy there. I hope I may visit some year, in the near future.

My father's father (Barbera), was one of 8 brothers and 1 sister. I assume they were originally also from the same small town & province. My grandfather (my father's father) had smallholdings / farms, that used to produce many fresh farm products, though he himself, did not consume any wine / alcohol in any form.....hence I know he wasn't into wine production.

I take up your offer to chat occasionally, as it is nice to speak of the past relatives, even though we did not know them personally (most of them anyhow), and to also try to keep the Barbera name refreshed with new vigor and enthusiasm. Maybe it can "rub" off on our new generation children & grandchildren. Heavens knows, they are probably going to be even further in "the dark", about their respective ancestry.

Kind regards and well wishes.

Achille

P.s. - I'm seriously planning to return to Italy within the next year or two, as it is my place of birth, and it's time to "listen" to my roots calling. I'm semi-retired so...... :-)
Also, I tried to send to your e-mail address, but this message above was returned - undelivered ??
