FYI and for others who might still be using erroneous information about the Jacob Bankson, of Philadelphia, who married Elinor Cox. He was born about 1720 and died in 1737 and did not have any children. In his will he mentions his wife, brothers, sister, a cousin and his mother.
The will of Jacob Bankson was written 2 Aug 1757, proved 10 Aug 1757, recorded in Philadelphia Will Book K: pages 557-559, #345, and transcribed as follows:
"In the Name of God Amen I Jacob Bankson junr of Passunk in the County of Philadelphia yeoman, being somewhat indisposed in Body, but Blessed be God of sound & well Disposing mind & Memory, do therefore think fit to make this my Last Will and Testament in manner following, that is to say, First, I nominate and appoint my beloved wife Elinor, my Brother John & my Cousin Andrew Bankson of Philada Shopkeeper to be the Executors of this my Last Will & Testament hereby authorizing & impowering them, or any of them, or the Survivors or Survivor of them or the Executors or Admintors of ___ Survivor to grant bargain sell & Convey unto any person or Persons in Fee Simple, by publick or private sale or Sales, all that my piece or parcel of Land in Passyunk aforesd, containing about Seventeen Acres & Three quarters of Land which I Lately purchased of Sarah Stretch, Together with the Brick Tenement which I lately Erected thereon & all other the Appurtenances. and also all that my undivided Moiety or Equal half part of the Swamp Lands, over Hollanders Creek, Containing Thirty Acres more or Less, which I hold in Common with my Brother John, with it's Appurtens, and the Monies arising by such sale & Sales I order & Direct to be paid & Applyed towards payment of my just Debts, and I give & Bequeath unto my Eldest Brother Andrew if Living, Twenty Shillings, also I give & Bequeath unto my Honour'd Mother Elinor One annuity or Yearly Rent of Ten Pounds lawful money of Pensilva to be paid her yearly during her natural life, the first payment to be made that day twelve months next after my Decease also the Priviledge of living in the Old House on my Plantation during her Life and the use of my Negro Girl Hester during my sd Mothers Life, and after my Mother's Death I give the sd negro Girl to my sd Wife Elinor, Also I give & Bequeath unto my sd Wife Elinor all my Household Goods, Furniture, & Implements of Household, all the Rest & residue of my Personal Estate, Stock Cattle &c except my Negro Boy Toney, which negro Boy I give to my Wife, I order to be sold & to be applied towards Payment of the residue of my Just Debts, and as for & concerning the Plantation & Tract of Land whereon I now live, & all the Rest & Residue of my other Lands Tenements Hereditaments & Real Estate whatsoever & wheresoever I do give Devise and bequeath one full Moiety or Equal half part thereof unto my sd ___ Elinor, her Heirs & Assigns for Ever, She paying one half of the Ren__ -ing debts due from my Estate, And I do give, devise & Bequeath the other full Moyety or Equal half part of my sd Plantation Tenements Hereditaments & Residuum Real Estate unto ___ -thers Peter & John and my Sister Deborah part & Share ___ Heirs & Assigns for Ever to be Equally Divided betw___ paying the other half of the annuity aforesd unto my sd Mother, a__ paying the other half of my remaining debts, and my Will is that my Wife Elinor & her heirs shall hold & Enjoy for her Purpart & Share of my Plantation & Tract of Land whereon I now live, the dwelling House Orchard & one moyety or Equal half part of the whole Plantation Contiguous thereto, and I revoke all former Wills & Testaments by me make & do Declare this only to be my Last Will & Testament In Witness whereof I the sd Jacob Bankson have hereunto set my Hand & Seal, the Second Day of August in the year of our Lord 1757, first declaring that what I have herein before given my Wife is in lieu of her Dower or thirds in my Estate, Jacob Bankson Signed Sealed Published & Declared by the sd Jacob Bankson for and as his Last Will & Testament in the Presence of us who have hereunto Subscribed our names as Witnesses of ye same in his presence & at his Request The Testator first giving unto his Wife his Strawberry Roan Mare with her Brown Colt Cathrine Cox, Jno Reily Philada Augt 10th 1757 Then Personally appeared Catherine Cox & John Reily the Witness to the foregoing will on oath did Declare they saw and heard Jacob Bankson the Testator therein named Sign Seal publish & Declare the same will for & as his last Will & Testament & that at the Doing thereof he was of Sound mind Memory & Understanding to the best of their Knowledge Coram Wm Plumsted Be it remembred that on the 10th Day of Augt 1757 The last Will & Testament of Jacob Bankson deced in due form of Law was Proved & Probate and Letters Testamentary were granted to Elinor Bankson Jo__ Bankson & Andrew Bankson Executors in the sd Will named being __ sworn well & Truely to Adminr the Decedts Estate & bring an Invenry thereof into the Register Genls Office at Philada at or before the 10th Day of Sep__ next & Render a true Accot when Required Given under the Seal of the sd Office Wm Plumsted Regr Ge__"
