Thank you so much! It is quite interesting to know he was "of" Loudoun in 1790. I happen to live in Loudoun County, VA right now and hope to do some research on him, now that I know that. It seems as though he was moving southbound if he was in Loudoun in 1790, and none of these records mention him in Culpeper County. I know there were some Ballengers in Frederick, MD and wonder if maybe he was of that group.

I had read that an Edward Ballenger (older than my William) owned land in Culpeper county which bordered the land of John Bartlett, the father of Elizabeth Bartlett/Bartley, so I've been wondering if Edward happened to be William's father. Maybe he was William's uncle?

Anyway... thank you, Jo, for the help. I appreciate it more than I can express! I'll now search Loudoun records and see if that helps me find my answers. Bless you!
