I am trying to locate information on Elisha C. Baker, born in Muhlenberg Co. KY. He was the son of David Baker and Mahala Welch Baker. In the mid 1850's he was recruited into William Walker's "Filibusters". My brother had once found some information on Elisha somewhere, but I don't have that information availbable currently. I do know that he died in Mexico, having not made it home from one of Walker's invasions of Nicaragua. When I first started my research I found another tree stating he died in Monterrey, Mexico in 1867, and also stating he was in the Civil War. This could not be true since it was from May, 1855 to 1857 that Elisha was in Central America, and he never made it back. Most of Walker's recruits did not, although I read on the last trip many of his men deserted William Walker was a slave advocate and most of his recruits were from TN and KY. He was considered a hero in the US after he overtook LaPaz Mexico. I don't know how Elisha became a Walker mercenary, but probably for the adventure. Elisha did have an Uncle Elisha that was in the Civil War, thus the probable mix-up, that Elisha is buried in KY. Does anyone have information about Elisha C. Baker or William Walker's "Filibusters"? I would really like to find more about him.
