I'm trying to assist a distant relative of mine with finding more information about her paternal family.
Her father is George Baker born in 1922 Memphis, Shelby, Tenn. He lived in Detroit, Michigan and died there as well (date unknown). She was not raised with her father and only met him for a brief period in her late teens (were he refused to discuss his family). The information she does know is as follows......
George is half-white from his father, and half-black from his mother. His mother's name is Annie or Ann born 1905 in Tenn. - death unknown (maiden name unknown; she passed away in his teenage years). While his father Unknown Baker was only around the family for a very short period of time (long enough to possibly produce another female child with Annie; name is unknown).
Now my relative has done various DNA test with FamilyTreeDNA.com (family finder and mtDNA, which doesn't apply in this case) and participated in the National Geographic DNA Project. Her European ancestry has come back as Russian, Northern Europe (Norway), Great Britian, and Ireland. Mediterranean was noted from her National Geographic Results as well.
Now outside of that, is there any other thing that she can do to possibly find out more about this side of her family? Or is there any male Baker on here who has used Y-DNA test on either of the sites mentioned above that would be willing to allow her to compare her autosomal DNA results to? (so we can see if her paternal line is indeed genetically from the Baker surname).
Any sort of advice or suggestions would help.
Thank you!
