My Bakalar family from near Giraltovce, Slovakia had changed their name to Chergosky (C'ergovsky) probably before immigrating. Some continued to use the Bakalar name as a surname, and some used it as a middle name. I would like to hear from anybody that has knowledge of the Chergosky name change and might be related. The Bakalar and Chergosky names were both sometimes used by the same people.
Family members were/are mostly in New York, Pennsylvania, Streator, Illinois, Minnesota, and other states.
One "cousin" I have a photo of is Mike Bakalar, taken in WWII. I believe he was from Ohio, Illinois, or possibly Indiana.
Anything sound familiar? Thanks!
