Several family trees list Miriam Bailey, daughter of Joseph Bailey and Mary Stanton. Miriam's spouse is usually listed as 'Hancock' sometimes with a question mark.
I have seen such a reference in Hinshaw's Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy. The marriage date given is 1776. But I have found nothing more about Mr. Hancock married to Miriam Bailey. And nothing more about Miriam herself.
My question is: Is it possible that the original Quaker records have been misread? Could 'Hancock' be 'Hunicut'?
Miriam somebody married Thomas Hunnicutt (Hunicut). There are plenty of references to Thomas and Miriam and their children in the Blackwater, Virginia, meeting minutes, and later in Concord and Stillwater meetings in Belmont, Ohio following their removal there in 1807. But I have found no reference to their marriage, and no maiden name for Miriam.
I just have a hunch that Miriam Hunnicutt was born Miriam Bailey. Does anyone have information to share that will prove or disprove my hunch?
