Searching for the parents of Matthew Price Backwell, born bet 1799 and 1801 in Bristol, Somerset, England. (This according to him in the census)

Matthew lived in Castletown, Isle of Man, where he was a bookseller and engraver. It is reported that he was editor of Port of Tyne Pilot before coming to the Island around 1845.

He was married to Frances Browne (b. abt 1798) and had the following children:

Ellen Matilda, Sep 14, 1843
Jane Amelia, Feb 22, 1847

After Frances' death, Matthew married again to Phoebe Gathercole (almost 40 years younger...) In 1881, they lived at 36 Hicks Road, Litherland, Lancashire, and were probably still there at the time of Matthew's death, pre-1901.

I have found a couple of Backwells in the census with the middle name of Price but have so far been unable to determine their parentage.
