I am looking for information about Ernst Ludwig Backhaus and his father, Christan Backhaus. Ernst married Meta Luetjen in 1848 in Hamburg. Meta was from the Scharmbeck area. Church records indicate that Christian Backhaus was from Mensinghausen amt Uchte. Children of Ernst and Metta were Metta Alheid, Johann Diedrich, Gesche, Metta Maria, Marten, Bernhard, and Ernst Heinrich. The children were born in Hamburg and several of them immigrated to New York in the 1880s.
