Looking for any information about my wife's paternal 3x great grandfather, Moses Babcock. Moses and Catherine Provost were married at Ponds Church in Oakland 24 Dec 1836. We contacted the church and seems that the records were burned in one of a few fires at the church. So that is a dead end. Moses was born around 1815 in NY. He is listed as living in Bergen County, NJ around the time of their marriage, was living in Haverstraw, NY when their son James Provost Babcock was born in July 1838, and then the trail goes cold. We believe Moses died in 1839 sometime. Or did Moses and Catherine divorce? We next picked up the story with Catherine married to Levi S Conklin (basket maker) living in Haverstraw, NY and their son Ruben born in 1841. Then Levi, Catherine and James P., along with 5 Conklin children are listed in the 1860 Census for Haverstraw, NY.
