Looking for information on Christian Baadsgaard. Married to Susan- Children Roy and Dorothy Baadsgaard
|
Did Christian live in Chicago after moving from Denmark? My ex-husband's father was Roy Baadsgaard.
|
Yes- Christian lived in Chicago. Roy was married for a short time to Pauline Kirby in Cadiz, Kentucky
|
I corresponded with Christian's brother in the late 60's. It was my understanding that the brother was the great uncle of my ex-husband (who was Roy Baadsgaard and Ruth Collier's son - born in Chicago and moved immediately to Fort Worth Texas where Ruth was from). When I saw this posting and the fact that there was another Sue Baadsgaard, I had to check further.

That was really wierd to see a posting by another Sue Baadsgaard! I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone for a minute. I'm not the one that used to be married to Roy. I was born a Baadsgaard. It would be fun to talk to you, Sue.

Hi,
I was married to Roy (the son of the Roy mentioned in several notes on Ancestry.com) - many years ago. With such a unique name and 2 kids that share the name, I developed an interest in tracking down "family" members.
We live in Texas - in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Where are you from? Look forward to sharing some history with you.

I live in California, but was reared in Utah. My grandfather, Marinus Baadsgaard emigrated from Denmark as a teenager and eventually settled in Lake Shore, Utah. Have far have you traced your ex's Baadsgaard line?

Best I can tell, it was Oloff Rye Baadsgaard that came from Denmark in 1877. Oloff was born 17 Feb 1857 or 1858 in Copenhagen. Christian (a.k.a. Christ or Crist) was one of his sons. He was born in Iowa 1 July 1888 and died 12 May 1964. Roy William was Christian's son. I found a record that mentioned Oloff's father as Jens Madsen Baadsgaard but have not been able to figure out which Jens this would be.

I saw that the Illinois Death and Stillbirths index shows that he was born in Copenhagen - but I think that that may be incorrect. (That may simply have been the only place in Denmark that whoever gave the information then was aware of...?)
In Thisted parish in Thisted Amt there is a birth/baptism record for Olaf Rye Baadsgaard born Feb 17 1858. His parents are listed as Jens Madsen Baadsgaard and Else Jensdatter. The family must have moved soon after his birth since by 1860 they were living in Lemvig Købstad in Ringkøbing Amt. (Ringkøbing Amt is directly to the south of Thisted)
Below are the census records for that family in 1860 and 1870 (in Lemvig Købstad) All persons in the household Ringkøbing, Skodborg, Lemvig Købstad, Vasen, Matr. nr. 97, forhuset, 153, FT-1860, D4149

Hope this helps,

This is very helpful! It looks like Olaf had a brother and a son named Christian. I believe you are right about the birth place being incorrect. Now the trick is finding out who the parents of Jens Madsen Baadsgaard and Else Jensen are.
Thanks! Brent
