Hello! My Great Great grandfather came from El Turo, Lebenon (in the mountains) around 1877-1896, I believe. They settled in the Roanoke VA area and then PaPa came into West Virginia. They took on the name of Wheby sometime. I know that Papa married Rosebell Leighton (Irish) and had several children. Papa was one of the first to come to America and started a Mercantile. He later brought over many of his brothers. I will be getting more info this weekend from my grandmother and can send more then. Please let me know if this helps at all.

There were 4 other brothers that he later brought to America. There was another family that came over about the same time - Santon. Hey,
My great granfa came from Syria with my great grandma. Their names were Youssef Ibrahim Azar and Helny Hannah Barad.. they were jewish... I dont know what happened to my Azar family name, but the brazilian government translated our "arabic" names into portuguese, but forgot to translate Azar.. so, my Abrao is a translation for Ibrahim. I just found out an Azar Family in Sao Paulo, they are lebanese. My great grandfa was from Sadad, Syria.. closer to Homs... but we have nobody living there and even we dont know how to speak hebrew and arabic languages.. just me who speak English in my whole family.
Regards.

Was wondering if El Turo is the same as Antoura. That's where my family is from. I was interested in contacting you, because, although I can't lay my hands on it right this second, I could swear that I've seen the marriage record for Rosebell Leighton and a Wheby, perhaps Charlie? Not sure my memory is correct, but I will check when I get home. If I am remembering correctly, they married in Roanoke. My family is tied to both Azar and Wheby (through marriage). I am interested to know what you've found and also the names of the 5 brothers.
