I have a newfound interest in tracing the Aybar name. My family is originally from a small village near Bella Vista in Santiago, RD.

Any information you can share with me would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all.. I am from Santo Domingo and I was searching for the Aybar origins.. Some claim that it's from Navarra Spain, however, I asked my father about it, and he told me that we had arab relatives, but that they were nomads and people who did not accumulate wealth. When I went deep into the search, I found that Aybar is a common last name in turkey, so I searched the history of the arabs in DR. Guess what.. after asking my family and grand mother, everything became clear and we are sure that the Aybar comes from the turks that lived in Libanon and moved to DR during the beginning of the century, running away from turkey authorities who prosecuted catholics. I know that most of turks, lebanese, palestine and syrian people that went to DR moved to provinces like San Pedro, San francisco, and salcedo, but then they spread throughout the country. they were street sellers and the government had to create a law to tax them cause they were taking over the street markets.. some of the arabs became rich with the shoe industry such as Plaza Lama, and some with the sugar cane. A lot of them used to live in a single home and in extreme poverty.. I suggest that you look at the history of the arabs in DR and also ask your family where they come from.. SEARCH , SEARCH.. that's my best advise. It was really interesting to find all this data, and if you search turkish people, you'll find that the last name is relatively common there.. GOOD LUCK!

Hi, this is good stuff, and it makes a lot of sense. I've also heard there are Aybars in the Montecristi area, those are the ones that moved to Santiago. So it seems that all started in Montecristi.
