I am looking for any information on the following family:

Gerhard (Arhael in the 1885 census) born ca 1849 in Denmark
Mattie Marie JENSEN? (Mae in the 1885 census) born ca 1854 in Denmark
John born ca 1877 in Denmark
Zena (Nancimia in the 1885 census) born 12/26/1883 in Denmark
William born ca 1886 in Iowa, married Margaret Pearl ?
Elsie Marie born Aug/Oct 6/1888 in Iowa, married Joseph Elbridge KEMPTON
Marian A. born 8/5/1890 in Iowa, married Erick M. TYSVER
Henry born ? in ?

This family lived in Springvale township, Humboldt, Iowa in 1885. Marian (my great-grandmother) was born in Dakota City, Humboldt, Iowa.

Between August 1894 and August 1895, Gerhard and Marie died two weeks apart from "blood poisoning." The children were separated among various community families, possibly some being relatives.

Any information would be helpful. I would especially like to know from where in Denmark the family came, the death dates and burial place of Gerhard and Marie, and any other information regarding the children that can be found.

Thanks for your help!

They are my great-grandparents, but I have a different spelling for their names:
Erhardt Andrew Axelsen
Mette Marie Pedersen

Erhardt died on a Friday evening from cardiac asthma and is buried in Union Cemetery, Rutland Township, Humboldt, Iowa. Buried in Block 13, Lot 17. Mette Marie died on Saturday one week later than Erhardt (in childbirth). Buried in same place.

Wow! I am so excited to hear from you.

The only information we had on my great-great grandparents was what my great-grandma Marian was told or remembered. I'm sure some of the information was either mis-communicated or misunderstood. Marian died in 1983, and my grandmother has Alzheimer's, so the only information we have left is what my mother and her family remember and what is written on various pictures.

How did you get your information? Are you descended from one of the boys? We know Zena and Elsie moved to California; Zena never married while Elsie did. Can you share more? I would love to know more about the family!

I have a picture of Erhardt, Mette, John, Zena, and William circa 1887 if you are interested. (Perhaps you already have it.)

Feel free to e-mail me or post.

Right now I'm having trouble with vertigo, but as soon as I can see right I'll e-mail you directly.

Elsie was my grandmother. She and Aunt Zena were the ones I got information from.

I've never seen the picture you mentioned and would love to have it.

I'm really looking forward to communicating with you.
