Hello,
We are 2nd cousins. My grandfather was Adolph Axelrad's youngest sibling, Nathan (Nufsen prior to immigrating).

I just found your April response to my old Axelrad inquiry. Thank you for the information about your grandparents. I didn't know how your grandfather had ended up in NY. For that matter, I don't know why the family migrated to Utah in the first place. Strange place for a Jewish family to go.

I am sorry to hear of your grandmother's death.

I have learned a bit about the family's immigration, but virtually nothing about the old country. Nobody I've contacted has had records or knowledge from prior to immigration. Any information you can provide would be helpful. At any rate, I'd love to hear back from you.

My grandmother was Regina Axelrad. I would love to get in touch with other relatives of the Axelrads. I knew Sam, Lottie, Zelda, Regina, and Rose. There is a record of their ship on the Ellis Island website. I have a lot of pictures and i'm wondering if anyone has more information they would like to share about the family.

Hi,
I am also your second cousin, Nate and Ruths other grandson. About three years ago I had my mom call your dad to see if he had some information. I think I was in Salt Lake City and I had reached some sort of dead end. Jim and I exchange information. He has a better mind for organization. I get to Salt Lake City on business every once in a while. My wife and I met with another of the Axelrad first cousins and her husband who still live in Salt Lake City. She remembered a lot about my dad. We also found the graves of our great-grandmothers sister and brother-in-law who preceded Moses and Hattie in Salt Lake City. There is another small Jewish cemetary behind the larger city cemetary. I hadn't previously known that. I would love to hear from you. My e-mail is taxelr@pacbell.net
Regards, Tom

I hope to be able to help out with the limited knowledge I have through what my father, Adolph, shared with me as I was growing up.

The family originally came from the Northeastern part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which is now part of Russia. The oldest sons (David, George, Abraham Zillel, and Sam)
settled in Salt Lake City Utah. My guess would be that around 1902 Moses and Hattie brought the rest of their eleven children to Salt Lake City. In Europe, Moses was a cabinet maker, and his sons, most likely, were also involved in that business, because when they arrived in Salt Lake they opened a furniture store. There were two other branches of the Axelrad family in Europe. One in France, and one in England. Both were furriers.

My father, Adolph, upon finishing college at the University of Utah, went to New York to study at Columbia University Law School. He met Dorothy Gordon (born and raised in NYC), married her, and stayed on in New York to practice law. One issue from that union was Phyllis Beth Axelrad, who married Louis Storch from NYC. There were five children from this union: Roberta Lawrence, David Storch, Nancy Daniels, Suzanne Raper, and Michael John Storch (deceased).

In the Axelrad family there were four girls, but no Charlotte. The girls' names were Rose, Regina, Lottie, and Zelda.

George did move to NYC some years later after he married Mae(last name, unknown). In around the '60's they moved to Jackson, Tennesee.

Those siblings who stayed in Salt Lake were Sam and Rose.

David, Regina, Lottie, Zelda, and Nate moved to the LA area with Joseph moving to San Francisco. My Uncle AZ moved out to California after he retired, quite a bit after the others moved.

Grandchildren of Moses and Hattie:
David - one daughter; Mildred
George - two daughters; Pearl and Janice
Abraham Zillel - three childred; Robert, Bernard, Diane
Rose - two children; Irene and Richard
Regina - two children; Barbara and Melvin
Lottie - two daughters; Dorothy and Gertrude
Joseph - one son, Michael
Adolph - one daughter, Phyllis
Zelda - one son, Wesley
Nathan - two children; Kenneth and Donna
Sam - no issue

I hope to be able to gather a little more information which I will post at a later date.

Hello Phyllis. I've just come across this post. I spoke to you many years ago, shortly after you lost your father. This is excellent information - thank you for providing it.
I do have a question. My grandfather, Nate, always said he was from Bahrienestie, which is in present-day Ukraine. I wonder if you know anything about this, as this is far south of the area you identified.
Thank you, Jim Axelrad
