MUSCATINE, Iowa
Merry E. Axel, 40, of 2742 Brookview Rd., died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at her home.
Services will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Dr. David J. Hottenstein of the Grace United Church of Christ in Wilton will officiate. Pallbearers will be Randy Adams, Bill Massey, T. B. Lawrence, Lonnie Hearst, Bill Woller and Bret Whitlow. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Axel was born on June 19, 1960, in Davenport, the daughter of Roy and Mildred Hinler Staschke. She married Gary W. Axel on Nov. 9, 1985, in Muscatine.
She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose, Postmasters, and the Kiwanias in Aledo. She was a graduate of the Wilton High School in 1978.
She was currently serving as Postmaster at the Joy, Illinois Post Office for the past five years and prior to that she had been at the Muscatine Post Office for 10 years. She also was a postal trainer. She was devoted to her twin daughters.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Axel of Muscatine; twin daughters, Amy and Michelle Axel both of Muscatine; her mother, Mildred Staschke of Wilton and one sister, Joan Voss also of Wilton.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother.

Wilma P. Axel, 87, of Muscatine, died Monday, May 15, 2006, at Lutheran Homes.
Funeral Service will be at the Zion Lutheran Church, 513 Sycamore Street. Reverend Paul Ostrem will officiate the service. Honorary Bearers will be Joseph B. Axel and Kathryn A. Lockard. Casket bearers will be John A. Axel, Elizabeth Axel, Bradford J. Axel, Emily A. Goddard, Ryan Goddard and Jennifer M. Schatzberg. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund.
Wilma was born on April 12, 1919, in Cedar County, the daughter of Carl ?Fred? and Marie Lauber Marolf. She married Chester W. Axel on June 16, 1940, in Muscatine.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was active in Sunday School. She also served on the committee to build four grade schools in the 1950's.
Wilma enjoyed needlework and collecting antiques.
Survivors include her husband, Chester W. Axel of Muscatine; two sons, John W. Axel and wife, Joni, of Muscatine, and Ronald G. Axel and wife, Joan, of Muscatine; one daughter, Donna M. Axel of Waterloo; six grandchildren, John Andrew Axel, Bradford Joseph Axel, Emily Ann Goddard, Joseph Brian Axel, Kathryn Amanda Lockard, and Jennifer Marie Schatzberg; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Clara and Margaret and a half-brother, Gustave.
