I am trying to figure out my family tree of the Avalo last name. I am the daughter of Philip Avalo and he is the son of Felix Avalo and Georgina Flores. We were all born in NY and PR. I am interested in getting in contact w/anyone who may have info. or may think we are related. This is not only for me to know the bloodline from where I came from but so that I may share it with my children. Family has always been important to me whether near or far...Thank you!

According to a book at the U. of Puerto Rico,"La Inmigracion a Puerto Rico Durante El Siglo XIX"-Jose Benito Avalo-1855,hijo de Jose y Joaquina, de 23 anos de edad. natural de Pontevedra;labrador, soltero, Se queda en Puerto Rico al naufragar en viage a Cuba." He was my husband's great grandfather. Our Avalos are from Fajardo, Juncos & Manati.
Jose Avalo-Sanchez is listed as a mayor of Fajardo in 1882

Hi Wendy! My husband's(Jose Antonio Avalo-Collazo)from Puerto Rico, great-grandfather(Jose Avalo-Sanchez) came from Pontevedra, Spain. We know that he was on his way to Cuba to meet a brother.(The ship ran aground and he stayed in P.R.in 1855.) Maybe there was another brother who went to
the Dominican Republic? How far back do you trace your Avalo line?? Where to do live? I'm now in Orlando,FL.
Let me hear from you.
Saludos, Gayle

Dear Wendy,
So glad to hear from you! You're living quite close! Now let's see how close our "family blood lines" really are.
You are very young, so I'm wondering how far back your Mother or great-grandfather has family information. Where in the Dominican Republic was he(Manuel Avalo) born & when?
Do you travel to the D.M. to visit relatives? I just got back from a visit to Puerto Rico.
Gayle

Wendy, I congratulate you for being interested in your family genealogy at 16 and I"m sure a busy High School student!! I did not start my family search until my father died and I was given a painting of my grandmother's(his mother) ancestrial home in Red Wing, MN. I began to wonder about the people who had come from Norway and lived in that house. A friend here in Orlando took me the the Central Florida Genealogy Society meeting, and I was "hooked". Now, of course, besides Minnesota and Noway, I'm doing my
husband's side of the family; hence, the Avalo-Collazo-Puerto Rico and Spain. I lived in Puerto Rico for over 23 yrs, and came back to the U.S. in 1985.
I work for the Census Bureau, doing on-going statistical interviewing. I have 4 children; a son and daughter are in Puerto Rico. My daughter is studying in San German, P.R.
Two sons are working here in Orlando.
I will try to help you as much as I can with your research.
Do you have a genealogy computer program? I'm using a new one called RootsMagic.
Write and tell me about you and your family. Gayle
