Hi Yvonne,
I should have gotten back to you sooner but I've been checking my notes from the last couple of years of visits to the libraries to make sure I didn't miss anything. I want so much for Martin and Marie to be my ancestors. I enjoy the background information you have about them such as Martin's death coming home from church. Those are the things that make this so interesting. Most of the time you only find cold hard facts. I can't find anything in my notes to definitely connect my line to Martin and Marie but I would bet that they are my ancestors. Did you come across any other Aucoin family that did not orginate with them?
Here's how I am related to the Aucoins;
My great-great-great grandmother was Josephte Aucoin wife of Joseph Bournival.
Josephte's parents were Jean Baptiste Aucoin and Josephte Grenier.
Jean Baptiste's parents were Alexis Aucoin and Thecle Lareau. m.Feb 14, 1763
Alexis' parents were Jean Baptiste Aucoin and Marie Saulnier.
And here is where I am stuck. I'm thinking probably one of Martin and Marie's sons is the missing link between me and Martin and Marie. I guess I thought it might be Alexis because this name shows up again a couple of generations later. I don't know why you would, but do you have any data on any of the other of Martin's 16 siblings?
If not, can you recommend some sources for me to explore? Our local Library in Saginaw Michigan has very little information on the Acadians, just a census book and a CDRom. And that's where I found the information that I have. The more recent genereations such as Alexis and Thecle I found in LDS Church records from Quebec. But I haven't had a chance to check the towns you mentioned in Nova Scotia yet. Maybe there are church records available for these parishes.
Anyway, thanks so much for the information you sent. I appreciate it so much. I am sure we are cousins, I just have to prove it!
