Hello Terry (and others responding to you),
I'm very excited to see your post. Pierre Aucoin/Ocoin and Aurelie Pelletier/Peltier are my great great great grandparents. During the past year, I've been tracing this line by corresponding with a relative in Spencer, Mass., and also by obtaining vital records from Massachusetts. What I have pieced together is that Pierre & Aurelia were born in Sorel, Quebec, Canada (I believe it's St-Victoire de Sorel, to be more exact). I am a descendant of their daughter, Anne ("Annie"), who was born in Dec. 1859, in Spencer, and died Dec. 16, 1923 in Spencer. She married George Gaudette (who was born in Sorel) on Jan. 1, 1878 in Spencer. I found it interesting that their marriage record listed them as "George Goddard & Anna Wedge"! I had heard from my grandfather about the Anglicizing to "Ocoin or O'coin", and he said that this was "wedge English" - but he may have also been implying that "Wedge" was another variation. I did see Napoleon Aucoin/Ocoin living near George Gaudette & Annie Aucoin Gaudette in a census record, and thought that this might be a relative. I have scans of photos of Annie & George, and their children, if you'd like to see them (from 1907 & 1920).
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Jonathan Tétreault, Indianapolis, IN.
