Clare, thank you for your message. We may be talking about the same man. The Andre Aube I am looking for has the death date you gave and was married Jan 7, 1715 to Genevieve Fradet ct. Michon at St. Vallier. It seems that his name was changed to Aube from Obee and that the family came from Holland. It is believed that his parents were Hendrick Obee and Aeltje/Keltie Claes.
Many French Huguenots went to Holland before coming here for their religious freedom and from the records of the Dutch Reformed Church in New York I found a record of this couple and have it on Dutch authority that the name Obee is definitely of French origin albeit through Holland to this country. But I am still waiting for a book on the Indian/French captives from New England and upstate New York from a New Hampshire genealogist who has made this a particular area of study and who is familiar with this particular case. Anymore info you have would be appreciated. e-mail address is
