Au Coin in Nova Scotia and Mass.
I am researching my sister-in-law's family. Not much is known. The family story is the family escaped France, maybe as Huguenots, and went to Ireland. After Ireland the family settled in Nova Scotia.
The information I have is a James Au Coin had a son Thomas b.1909 in Nova Scotia, Canada. Thomas married Margaret DeLaury (spelling unknown). The family moved to Weymouth, MA around the time of the Depression, before 1936.
Margaret was born in the United States while her parents were on vacation from Canada.
Does anyone recognize this family? Are they part of the Au Coins mentioned by everyone else for Nova Scotia? Could the family history be wrong?

Re: Au Coin in Nova Scotia and Mass.
Your family stories are not correct unfortunately. Your Aucoins are Acadians, originally from La Rochelle (former seat of Huguenotism however), but your ancestors are Catholic. Your MA. Aucoin family probably comes from the Cheticamp/Margaree area of Cape Breton or from the Pomquet/Havre Boucher area where there are also many Deslauriers (now Deloreys). Concentrate your search in these two places. Sorry, I don't have a more precise answer for you or any other information. I'm sure someone on this board may be able to help further. Dennis

Re: Au Coin in Nova Scotia and Mass.
My sister-in-law was raised Catholic, so that fits. I wasn't sure if her Au Coins would be the ones that keep popping up because I don't know if Au Coin is found in more than one place in Nova Scotia.
For example I have 2 Avery families, both originally from CT but not related at all. Just wanted to make sure I was digging around the right family tree.
Thank you

Re: Au Coin in Nova Scotia and Mass.
I'm from Cheticamp CB NS, and the highest concentration of Aucoin's are there! but this dates back to the mid 1700's after the deportation of the Acadiens. A person that may be able to help you is Charlie Dan Roach, I think you should be able to reach him through Les trois Pignons.
Good Luck!!

Re: Au Coin in Nova Scotia and Mass.
I'm from British Columbia, my Father's name is Gary William Aucoin. His Father was William Francis Aucoin married to Roberta Entz originally from Port Au Port Newfoundland. This is all I know, I'm currently looking for family names connected historically? I've been told that they're Acadians and we're possibly related to the Mi'kmaqs ancestry. Does anyone know how to verify my roots with the names provided above? That's all the information I have. Thankyou if anyone can help.
