As you can tell, I am new to this searching and finding, or not finding! My email is barefootdancing7@yahoo.com and my name is Lynda Chase. When I do find things, I usually lose them and cannot go back to where I was! I would love to keep in touch with you. Thanks!

This is good news. My brick wall is, "which Joseph" so the more of these Attaway men we can get should help in my search. Your John and family are from SC & GA where mine are from so I'm sure there's a connection. Harrison, John and Chesley are names scattered throughout the Attaway clan.

You can email me directly at ssbrogdon@aol.com if you'd like to trade further information.

Hi, Sharon!

I just saw your post about Attaway DNA. My brother is the only living male Attaway ancester in our line. I am buying the kit to have him take the test.

My Attaway line comes from John, born 1751 Virginia, to Chesley, born 1806 Laurens, SC, to Harrison, born 1836 Greensboro, GA, to Brennan Attawy, born Missouri, to my father, Robert Harrison Attaway, born 1915 in Missouri.

I think that there's a possibilty that John's father was Joseph Attaway since he was in records in 1751 in Dan River Virginia.

Terri

Pat, I believe Kristen was trying to do the right thing. This was not a joke or trick! She posted some of the items she had found on a temporary web site which I viewed but unfortunately did not download in time before it was deleted. She has since deleted the items from her camera after she handed them over to this person who showed her proof that he was an Attaway. She is only keeping her word to this person by not revealing his identity and I beleive she came to this decision since she had received so many emails directing her about this find. I have personally talked to her, she could have trashed the information but instead made it available to an Attaway. Now, whether this person ever decides to share is beyond Kristen's influence. I keep hoping that he will. He has my email so maybe it is just taking him a long time to sort through and make sense of what he has. I'm still hopful that at some point we'll see this information surface again. At least it's in the hands of a person interested in our family.

Attaway DNA Group

I just began a new Attaway DNA group on Ancestry with the help of my brother's DNA test. If you are an Attaway male please make the effort to have a DNA test done, we used the 46 marker kit, and post your results so we can ascertain which Attaway group we all belong to. Right now Ancestry has their kits on sale so it's a little less expensive to get one done. It's an easy mouth swab (no blood tests). Go to Ancestry.com and click on DNA and then search for the name Attaway.

Attaway's in Johnson County, GA

Hello to all Georgia Attaway researchers!
I am researching the Attaway families in Georgia. This is for my son-in-law who is the grandson of Emory Cecil and Elizabeth Wade Attaway from Bleckley County, GA. He is the great grandson of Simmie A. and Annie M. Attaway. (We have seen that "Simmie" has been written as 'Sam' on past censuses.) We believe this Simmie A. Attaway is the son of Louden A. and Mattie M. Attaway. Louden was born April 7, 1853 in South Carolina. On the 1900 census Louden A. was in Johnson County, GA.
If anyone has any information on Louden A. Attaway, his ancestors, or descendants, I would love to communicate with you and share what information I have gotten. This would be helpful in making sure the information is valid. You can either post a response here or send me an email at: DonaRoze@aol.com.
Thank you!
Rozine

Faye, in your research did you see anything about Lewis M. Attaway marrying Mary Ann Barrett after 1900? Barrett is her maiden name, and she may have been married before this. They're together in Noonday Cemetery. Thanks much...Pam.

I'm not sure all of the names line up, but there must be a connection between these Attaways and my wife's line from SC.(Spartanburg, Saluda) I show an Ezekial Attaway fighting in the War of 1812, but not an Elijah, though they were both prophets. Our info goes back to 1664 in this country. I also have a book that states there were Attaways in Burke County GA(near Augusta) during the Great Unpleasantness, but that there were none by 1905. Would be glad to receive and share Attaway information.

Hi Folks,
I just found a box of old papers at a antique flea market in Fredericksburg Virgina (Home town of James & Caroline Attway).
what I have may interest you. Seems someone in the family was a ancestry buff or sleuth back in the 1930's. I didn't go through it all, it's not very organized but it is in one binder type book. It lists dates back to the 1700's. I think Elisha is the first name that come to mind along with Issac, Lettuce?, Joseph, william john, david robert, Harley, Gonley?, Anna, James etc... Elisha 1735 1816 Lettice Barton died after 1820?.
Info on the 1850 census from edgefield SC. And so on.

There are corresposndence letters from what I think a cousin to the original slueth (Haven't defined who the sleuth is as of yet.lol)

In any evet I will try and put some photos of what I have found up on the web, if you ar einterested email me for the link.

Thanks and happy Tracking, kristin
Hi, I just found some interesting papers today that I found at an antique sale in Fredericksburg VA.. Seems there was a Attaway geneaology buff back in the 1930's (Thats when a lot of these papers are from.) Correspondence's from what appears to be cousins talking about and dating their ancestors dating back to I think the 1700's. If you are interested let me know. As I said I just picked this stuff up and went through quickly. I did see an Issac from SC I believe he is the son of Elisha. I will try and put some photos of these pages on the web soon.
Have a Great Day, Kristin

Taylor and Selena (or Lena) actually had 11 children. Their daughter, Abbie, is my grandmother. She is whom I got the name Nancy Samples from. I haven't found any documentation for Samples or Sampson, though. Nancy did list her father as having been born in Ireland on one of the census. So, perhaps she is only half Cherokee or perhaps it is an error. I have found no proof either way. Nancy's first husband, Elisha (or Elijah) died during the civil war. Willis lost his second wife and then married Nancy. She is buried in the Black Oak Cemetery with Elisha in Hopkins, TX. I have a five-gen picture of Aunt Zelda's. You are probably in it.
