I just began a new Attaway DNA group on Ancestry with the help of my brother's DNA test. If you are an Attaway male please make the effort to have a DNA test done, we used the 46 marker kit, and post your results so we can ascertain which Attaway group we all belong to. Right now Ancestry has their kits on sale so it's a little less expensive to get one done. It's an easy mouth swab (no blood tests). Go to Ancestry.com and click on DNA and then search for the name Attaway.

Hi, Sharon!

I just saw your post about Attaway DNA. My brother is the only living male Attaway ancester in our line. I am buying the kit to have him take the test.

My Attaway line comes from John, born 1751 Virginia, to Chesley, born 1806 Laurens, SC, to Harrison, born 1836 Greensboro, GA, to Brennan Attawy, born Missouri, to my father, Robert Harrison Attaway, born 1915 in Missouri.

I think that there's a possibilty that John's father was Joseph Attaway since he was in records in 1751 in Dan River Virginia.

This is good news. My brick wall is, "which Joseph" so the more of these Attaway men we can get should help in my search. Your John and family are from SC & GA where mine are from so I'm sure there's a connection. Harrison, John and Chesley are names scattered throughout the Attaway clan.

You can email me directly at ssbrogdon@aol.com if you'd like to trade further information.
