George Atley/Atly

My 5th great-grandfather is George Atley. He was born in New York City, New York according to his death certificate. He was born December 28, 1859. Supposedly he ran away from New York as a young man and was raised by Spaniards and learned Spanish. He was a Cook on a Surveyors Crew and later became a driver on a Horse and Carriage. He married Margaret "Maggie" Laurina Rask (born Margrethe Rasch) on January 10, 1890 in Newman, California. He was divorced before 1910. His last name switches from Atley to Atly many times and he dies under the last name of "Atly".

He later had 2 children:
Martha Estelle Atley (B. October 31, 1890 in Newman, California)
Melville Lewis (or Louis) Atley (B. July 20, 1895 in Newman, California)

He also supposedly had a tattoo of the name "Maximillion" on his body and he also was related to a famous mayonaise company in new york. He also had a brother that served in the British Army.

Also either George or his son Melville owned a Grocery Store called At'ly-Tatton somewhere in California, probably Stockton as well.

I'm looking for any information on his parents, thank you.

To continue from above Quartely & article;
pg. 5 "Conrad Atley, noted above, was in Bedford County from about 1791 on, having shown in the 1790 Census in Dauphin County. Apparently he died about 1806-1807."

My name is Octavia Atley. My father is Elmer Elsworth Atley III. My great-grandmother Damie M. Atley was married to Elmer Elsworth AtleyII. Any information you may have please let me know. How many Elmer Atley's could there be? I don't know if my grandfather had a brother, my father never told us much about the family. Everything seems so secretive. Please respond

More on Atley family?

I've been trying to find out more about the Atley family. I was adopted by my grandfather, John R. Atley, whose father was John Herman Atley, whose own mother was Nancy Atley. Do these names ring any bells? They lived in the east Michigan area. I'd like to go farther back to trace the family into Europe.

Eve
