Interesed to here from the Atkin family.
My Father is an Atkin and so is my Mother! so I have two trees of Atkin.(not sure if they are related)
One side is Rimmington Akin (my gggrandfather) who in the 1851 census was in Kirton in Holland Lincolnshire aged 10,
his brothers ad sisters where Anne, Betsy, Eliza, Fredrick, John,he came to Hull a few years later and had Herbert Atkin, who he had six boys. Ernest George, Arthur, Walter, Herbert,Charles, would like to here from anyone who has any connection with the above.

My 3 x great grandmother was Eliza Atkin, b. 1816 in Thorne, Yorkshire. She married Stephen Webster in 1845 in the City of York and they had 4 children. Her parents were Thomas Atkin and Hannah Shaw who married in 1808 in Snaith, Yorkshire. Her siblings were Martha, Thomas, Hannah and William, all also born in Thorne. I have not yet been able to trace the family any further back, however there were other Atkin families in the area who might have been related. Please reply if you think you might be able to help.

ATKIN, Emma Jean (81), passed away at home in Arcadia, California on February 28, 2008. A remarkable woman; accomplished artist, community leader, professional, and an amazing homemaker. Her family was her life around which all other aspirations were made to fit. She met each day, engaged, and with a resolve and a commitment that left us wondering how she could do it all.
She never missed sending cards or remembering important events.
Her family, her friends and her
adopted extended family were so loved by her. They knew, absolutely, that someone always cared about and loved them unconditionally."
Her strength and courage, her love, compassion and friendship have been shared with so many during her lifetime. A lot could be said about her professional and community accomplishments, and they are many, but it was her uncanny way of being so real, of connecting and sharing, of being a wife,
being mom, grandma, great grandma, Aunt Jean, and just being Jean that was her most beloved legacy.
Born and raised in the Midwest, Jean moved to California in 1953 with her husband and their young family.
Wilmington and Carson, California were home for the next 20 years where she and Willard raised their three girls.
In 1976 Jean and Will moved to Lake of The Woods in the mountains that they both loved.
There she worked for, and later retired from, the Kern County Sheriff's Department. For 25 years
this was her home until moving to Sierra Madre in 1996 where for seven years she brought the Pinny House to life. They moved to Arcadia in 2003.
Though she will be profoundly missed, we will continue to love her and carry her in our hearts always. She rests in peace and love. Jean is survived by Willard, her husband of 61 years; her children Carolyn (Lloyd) Gardner, Shirley (Claude) Farris, and Kathay (David) Edmondson;
her grandchildren Jill (Zack) Sweaney,

William Atkin (born 1832) married Anne Ashton (born 1828) married in 1856 Glanford Brigg. They had 3 children: Thomas William Atkin born 1857: Joseph Ashton Atkin born 1858 & Frederick Atkin born 1861.
Thomas William Atkin born 1857 married 1) Alice Birch and they had 3 children: William Noel Atkin born 1885, Susan Ashton Atkin born 1887 & Charles Noel Atkin born 1889. Alice Birch Atkin died in 1893 and Thomas William married Mildred Maria Allbones in 1895. They had 4 children on the 1901 census, E.Mary born 1895, M.M. (? Mildred Mary) born 1898, G.Harry born 1899 & S.Ann born 1900.

Mildred Maria Allbones (born 1870 Minting) was the daughter of my great x 3 grandfather, Isaiah Allbones.

Have just discovered a WATERSON, MARY in my tree. Married to Charles ATKIN in York, YOR. She would have been born around 1853 +/-

From the census I read she was born in Sernton in Yorkshire, but according to my maps, Sernton doesn't exist. Is it a place or a transcript error?

She has at least three children - Atkins - all born in York:
Charles H.
Jeanie Louisa.
Emily Margaret.

That's all I know. Any clues/help to her ancestry would be appreciated.

I am looking for the family of Clay Brown Atkin and Mary Burwell. Clay was the son of Samuel T. and Nancy Atkin and and he was born Dec 27, 1864 in Tennessee. He married Mary Burwell on Dec 19, 1894. They had three children: Edith (1896), Eleanor (1898), Marian (1902). Edith married J. Edwin Lutz, Eleanor married J. Kennedy Craig, and Marian married first William Akers, then Charles Rankin.

Robert Atkin master mariner of Sunderland

This ancestor was a master mariner sailing out of Sunderland in the mid 19th century. He married Isabella Hudson and had one son and three daughters. He does not appear on any of the censuses I have checked so perhaps was at sea when the censuses were taken. His father was also a Robert Atkin. I would very much like to find more about this family.

I am trying to locate any info re my fathers family. My father Arthur Atkin (born in Wigan 1924) came to Australia after the 2nd world war leaving behind a brother John or Jack (whereabouts unknown) and 2 sisters Jane Marjorie. Both his father, John William Atkin and his mother Sarah (formerly Mitchell) had deceased. Aparently John William Atkin was a "Fusillier" in the Army (WW1). Not much information is known about my grandparents at all. Is anyone out there related?

I'm seeking information as to what happened to the children of Parkin Atkin (b1856 at Humberstone, Lincs) - married Ann Lister at Caistor, Lincolnshire Sept 1882 after 1901. From the 1881 census have been able to clarify they had four children: Harold b1885, William b1887, May b1887 & Fred S b1884.
I believe Fred was a fireman in 1916 in North Grimsby.

Searching for information on John ATKIN married to Mary Marlow (1818-1949) later married Mathalia Winkley (nee Dawes) in Spalding. They migrated to Victoria Aust.in 1853 with his children from first marriage. John's parents given firstly as Sarah Hems and Abraham Atkin and later shows father as William.
Mary Marlow's parents were William Marlow and Elizabeth Wilson Bacon. Othersurnames in this line include DOLBY, WILLIAMSON and PEAK.

Here's what I might have, though none of it is confirmed.
Lawrence ATKIN b abt 1892 married Jennifer abt 1919 or 1920
Lawrence & Jennifer had 7 children Madge (Marjory?), Nora, Ernest, Lawrence, Sydney, Fred, Robert.

Father of Lawrence was Thomas ATKIN b abt 1853 married Ellen b 1856 abt 1873. Her maiden name might have been Merriweather but I am not sure.
Thomas & Ellen had 7 children, Arthur, Walter, Ellen, Tom Herbert, Harry & Lawrence.

Is there anyone who might be able to confirm my knowedge on this, thanks.

I live overseas so research in the UK is very difficult.

There was also a Lillian HOWARD (age 18 and pregnant) living there for a short while - it is this lady that I need information on if possible, but a lead to any one of these people would be nice.

Atkin family members who emigrated to Canada,early 1900s,appear on 1881 British census as follows Address, 46 Severs St, Everton, Liverpool, Lancashire.
Fredrick Atkins (Note the 's') and wife Sarah, both born Newcastle-on-Tyne, both aged 29
Ethel A.J. 5, b Beaumaris,Wales, Amy D., 4, B Wrexham, Denbigh, Wales
John F., 2, b Wrexham, Denbigh, Wales
Emily, 6 mths, b Liverpool
Two other boys were also born in England, Robert and Charles.
Their father died circa 1889. We don't know when Charles,Robert and Amy emigrated to Canada. Emily went out alone in 1905. John took his mother Sarah and sister Ethel out in 1908. He returned to England, married reared a family and emigrated to Australia in 1923.

I have been researching my ancestors in the Civil War, and am in need of any info on Pvt. George Atkin or his brother Francis Atkin. George and Francis were members of the 14th regiment New York, Company D. George was killed on July 1 1863 at Gettysburg and is buried there. I do not know what became of Francis. I am searching for a Hercules Atkin who emigrated from Liverpool around 1840 and settled in the USA.
His daughter was told that he had drowned as she thought that he was going to send for her when he had established himself in America.
He may have married another woman before departing .He may have gone to Ireland from Liverpool to catch ship from there.
