son called henry b1854
so it looks like in 1841 they where living with her parents

My name is Paul Lawrence Atkin, currently living in Japan. I am the 2nd son of Fred & Peggy Atkin nee Rickard. Coincidentally I just returned from a visit to the UK where I visited York and spoke to my Uncle Bob (Robert) and Aunt Nora (now 86 years old). My uncle suggested my Grandmother's name was Ginny (not Jennifer as I had previously thought) Mereweather (or Merriweather - not sure) so it seems you are correct. The name Ginny may have been a nickname based on Jane?

Can I ask which line are you from?

Of the 7 children Lawrence & Jane / Ginny had,
Madge is still living in York, though I was unable to meet her this time.
Nora is still living married to Bob Bolton (still living)
Ernest died in WWII, possibly in Anzio, Italy
Lawrence died about 15-20 years ago, was living in Dromfield
Sydney died about 15-20 years ago, was living in York
Fred (my father) died in Sept 2006 aged 78
Robert is still living in York, married to Thora - no children.

Only just started to trace back Atkin family York- If you are tracing your fathers blood line and your Grandfarther is Lawrence Atkin - then every probablity we're cousins. OK
Thomas Atkin married Mary Ellan Brown in 1873 had 7 kids 1 of which was -
Lawrence Atkin married Jane Maud Mereweather (Yr unknow as yet) and had 7 kids.

My family are not actually from your area but from Leeds, more specifically Arnley, so may have links. My dad was Alfred Atkin (born 1920, second son of George and Carrie Atkin. Oldest son was George, youngest son Jack. I am looking to find Jacks family who I met only once. My mum is also now dead and like all of us I asked too few questions! My uncle Jack was a bus driver and his son was called Paul. I dont remember the name of his daughter. I know he died a few years ago. I think his wifes name was Jean, but my family hardly ever saw or were in contact with Jacks. I would just like to contact them if I can, as I have always been in contact with the oldest brother George's daughter Sheila, and via her had news of her brother. I didnt have any other relations on my fathers side so would love to hear from any contacts.

Hello thanks for getting back to me but my Atkin were alaways in the North east then I know that William Atkin moved to The area that you are on about. It's rather strange really as my mother lived in Brough some 35 yrs ago and she thought that she had found her dad in that area but when she enquired he had not long since died. I believe though that a couple of brothers and a sister were living somewhere around the York Hull area. One was called William. I 5think one died in the 40's and William dies around early 60's. I have forebears who farmed at The Headland at Leigh from about 1812 but came from Marchington to that area. Before that they were from Abbots Bromley c.1670.
I found your g.g. on family search some time ago but couldn't find a connection - perhaps you have other info. that I could work on ????

ATKIN, Emma Jean (81), passed away at home in Arcadia, California on February 28, 2008. A remarkable woman; accomplished artist, community leader, professional, and an amazing homemaker. Her family was her life around which all other aspirations were made to fit. She met each day, engaged, and with a resolve and a commitment that left us wondering how she could do it all.
She never missed sending cards or remembering important events.
Her family, her friends and her
adopted extended family were so loved by her. They knew, absolutely, that someone always cared about and loved them unconditionally."
Her strength and courage, her love, compassion and friendship have been shared with so many during her lifetime. A lot could be said about her professional and community accomplishments, and they are many, but it was her uncanny way of being so real, of connecting and sharing, of being a wife,
being mom, grandma, great grandma, Aunt Jean, and just being Jean that was her most beloved legacy.
Born and raised in the Midwest, Jean moved to California in 1953 with her husband and their young family.
Wilmington and Carson, California were home for the next 20 years where she and Willard raised their three girls.
In 1976 Jean and Will moved to Lake of The Woods in the mountains that they both loved.
There she worked for, and later retired from, the Kern County Sheriff's Department. For 25 years
this was her home until moving to Sierra Madre in 1996 where for seven years she brought the Pinny House to life. They moved to Arcadia in 2003.
Though she will be profoundly missed, we will continue to love her and carry her in our hearts always. She rests in peace and love. Jean is survived by Willard, her husband of 61 years; her children Carolyn (Lloyd) Gardner, Shirley (Claude) Farris, and Kathay (David) Edmondson;

Interesed to here from the Atkin family.
My Father is an Atkin and so is my Mother! so I have two trees of Atkin.(not sure if they are related)
One side is Rimmington Akin (my gggrandfather) who in the 1851 census was in Kirton in Holland Lincolnshire aged 10,
his brothers ad sisters where Anne, Betsy, Eliza, Fredrick, John,he came to Hull a few years later and had Herbert Atkin, who he had six boys. Ernest George, Arthur, Walter, Herbert,Charles, would like to here from anyone who has any connection with the above.

I've never traced my ancestry but my grand parents lived in Aston outside Sheffield. My grandmother was called Beatrix Annie and my Grandfather was called Fred. I know that he served in the first world war and died when he was in his fifties. I have only met two other Atkin people in my life one in Lincolnshire and one in Australia. Hope this helps someone.

Have just discovered a WATERSON, MARY in my tree. Married to Charles ATKIN in York, YOR. She would have been born around 1853 +/-

From the census I read she was born in Sernton in Yorkshire, but according to my maps, Sernton doesn't exist. Is it a place or a transcript error?

She has at least three children - Atkins - all born in York:
Charles H.
Jeanie Louisa.
Emily Margaret.

That's all I know. Any clues/help to her ancestry would be appreciated.

William Atkin (born 1832) married Anne Ashton (born 1828) married in 1856 Glanford Brigg. They had 3 children: Thomas William Atkin born 1857: Joseph Ashton Atkin born 1858 & Frederick Atkin born 1861.
Thomas William Atkin born 1857 married 1) Alice Birch and they had 3 children: William Noel Atkin born 1885, Susan Ashton Atkin born 1887 & Charles Noel Atkin born 1889. Alice Birch Atkin died in 1893 and Thomas William married Mildred Maria Allbones in 1895. They had 4 children on the 1901 census, E.Mary born 1895, M.M. (? Mildred Mary) born 1898, G.Harry born 1899 & S.Ann born 1900.

Please contact me if any of these names are familiar to you.

Mildred Maria Allbones (born 1870 Minting) was the daughter of my great x 3 grandfather, Isaiah Allbones.

Robert Atkin master mariner of Sunderland

This ancestor was a master mariner sailing out of Sunderland in the mid 19th century. He married Isabella Hudson and had one son and three daughters. He does not appear on any of the censuses I have checked so perhaps was at sea when the censuses were taken. His father was also a Robert Atkin. I would very much like to find more about this family.

I am a descendant of a farming family of Atkin who I have traced back to Leigh,Uttoxeter where a number of them farmed based on the outcome of my g. grandfather David Atkin b.1829 in Doveridge, derbys. he was a tailor as well as a farmer. Bramshall is a hamlet within Leigh.
Eccleshall too is in Staffs - could be a link, although I have no evidence for suggesting this other than proximity of place.

Dovridge/Leigh are close to Burton.

I do not have an identified link with Eccleshall yet from my search. Beware, there are two "Atkin" families presently living in the L.Leigh area; one is unconnected and originates from Market Drayton in Shropshire. I have spoken to a Don Atkin, farmer, and his family in the locality who are unrelated.
I have also spoken to a Mrs Atkin who married into the family by marrying a George A. who was the son of Ron Atkin, one of David's sons. She is now a widow in her 80's

Kath, still waiting for you to contact me again. I have established that there are other family members around Lower Leigh. G. grandfather David was apparently the son of George A. and Elisabeth --- his wife. George, apparently was connected with "stagecoaches" - perhaps a publican in Doveridge linked to changing horses,etc on coaches using what is now the A50. I am told that he set all his sons up in a different "trade" which is why our g.g. was a tailor.David married the wife of the proprietor of the Butcher's Arms"; she died shortly after this event; and he then proceeded to marry her daughter who is our g.grandmother. In the process he inherited 10 acres of land which appears to be the start of the farming interest. One of his sons, Reg inherited the farm. Other sons, Sid and Ron moved to farm in Hilderstone nearby.
I have an interesting obituary report from the local paper re Sid's funeral in 1908 which sheds more light on the subject. Reg never married, neither did a daughter, Margaret.
G.g. David and M. had a son Russell who died aged 6 years (don't be fooled by a census entry for "Mussell"in the 1861/71 return ( i haven't got the appropriate ref. in front of me at this moment, so going from memory)

I am looking for the family of Clay Brown Atkin and Mary Burwell. Clay was the son of Samuel T. and Nancy Atkin and and he was born Dec 27, 1864 in Tennessee. He married Mary Burwell on Dec 19, 1894. They had three children: Edith (1896), Eleanor (1898), Marian (1902). Edith married J. Edwin Lutz, Eleanor married J. Kennedy Craig, and Marian married first William Akers, then Charles Rankin.
