I found a newspaper article in the family archieves from August, (1940-to-1942) headed that "Artist Dies Suddenly" at 262 Calhoun Street, New York. Joseph Aschenbrenner, 65 years old, apparently by a heart attack. If this is sounds like a family member, I'll be glad to send the whole article. WD4IFN@Charter.Net
I also have a George Aschenbrenner as a Great Grandfather. It is my understanding that he was born in 1855 in Bohemia. A New York passenger list had the Aschenbrenner family arriving in the Port of New York on May 14, 1888 on the steamship Sorrento from Hamburg, German. It listed the origin and ethnicity as Austrian and their destination as Iowa. George’s occupation was listed as a carpenter and his wife was Elizabeth Hartl. He has two children traveling with him, Anna age 4 and Dorothea age 3.

George & Elizabeth had three children in the US: Josef & Emil who both died at an early age and Edward (my grandfather). George died on Oct 25, 1911 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and it is my understanding that George had four brothers, but I have no information on them or his parents. He is buried at the Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Elizabeth parents were Albert Hartl and Marie Masna who were born in Czechoslovakia.

According to my mother, George changed his last name to Asenbrener to Americanize it, while my grandfather Edward used the name Ashenbrener.
Looking for Friedrioh (Fredrick) Fred Aschenbrenner (AKA Brenner) born 23 Apr 1889 or 1890, who came to the USA from Brunnental Russia in 1914, and lived in or near the area of Detroit, Michigan.
Frank Peter Aschenbrenner and Bessie Alice Hutchinson were my great-grandparents (their daughter Fern Myrtle Aschenbrenner is my maternal grandmother), but I have little information on his parents. FamilySearch has an IGI birth record of Frank P. Aschenbrenner, b. Jan 4, 1884 Reynolds Township, Lee County Illinois, d. Mar 21, 1957 in Ashton, Lee County Illinois, listing his parents as Carl Aschenbrenner and Matilda Engel. In the 1910 US Census, Frank listed has father's birthplace as Illinois, and his mother's as Germany. If you have more information, please share, and thanks!

Hi, Chuck

You are right. Since my previous posting, I also located the death records of Anton and Matilda (Rollhagen) Bredl in the online collection of Washington death certificates, 1907-1960. The identity of the Anton Bredl buried in the Forest Home Cemetery in Fifield WI remains a mystery. Perhaps a child??

I am happy to share the information I have on Anton Bredl and to learn more about the family of Anton & Matilda. My e-mail address:samsgen@comcast.net.

I really don't have any material on Matilda Rollhagen, other than the name of her parents: Frederic and Francisca Rollhagen, as listed on Anton & Matilda's marriage record.

Susan

As to the question about the Anton Bredl who died in 1895, I don't believe this is the same person. I believe that Anton Bredl died in 1936 in Seattle, Washington. His wife, Matilda Bredl (Rollenhagen) died in 1921 in Winlock, Washington. Both are buried at the St. Urban's Catholic Church cemetery. Anton Bredl was my great, great grandfather. Anton and Matilda moved to Winlock, Washington sometime between 1894 and 1910 (I have 1910 Census records for Lewis County, Washington). I have some questions about both Anton and Matilda that would help me with the family tree I'm trying to complete. Could I discuss these issues with you?

CRB

Update on Bredl (Bradle) Families from Markt Eisenstein, Bohemia

This is an update on Monika Bredl (1855-1929) who emigrated with her husband Georg Aschenbrenner from Markt Eisenstein, Bohemia in 1877 and settled in Stetsonville, Taylor Co, WI. She later moved to Park Falls, Price Co, WI to be nearer to her sons Edward and Lawrence Aschenbrenner of Park Falls.

I have learned that two of Monika's siblings also immigrated to America: Franziska and Anton. In February of 2007, I obtained information on the children of Michael Bredl and Franziska Rohrbacher (Monika's parents) from the archives in Pilzen, Czech Republic. According to these records, Franziska, Monika's sister, married a man by the name of Wallner; it was also recorded that Franziska died in America in 1936.

I recently obtained additional information from the Wisconsin marriage records that are available through the Wisconsin Historical Society. On January 13, 1890, in Fifield, Price County, WI, Anna Walner, daughter of Jacob Walner and Franciska Brodl (Bredl), married Michael Hilgart, listed as a farmer near Fifield. On that same day and place, Anton Bredl, son of Michael Bredl and Franciska Rohrbacher, married Matilda Rollhagen Anton's occupation is listed as a farmer near Fifield. Apparently, Franziska Wallner's husband Jacob had died by 1891; it is not known whether Jacob died in Bohemia or in America. On November 23, 1891, Franziska Bredl Wallner, daughter of Michael Bredl and Franziska Rohrbacker, married Anthony Aschbeck in Auburndale, Wood Co, Wisconsin. As stated in a previous posting, Franziska and Jacob Wallner also had a son George (Wallner) who immigrated to Sherry, Wood Co, WI. He is listed in the 1905 Wisconsin Census for that town. Also in a previous posting, a descendant of George Wallner, states that George was the son of Jacob and Franciska Wallner and grandson of Michael Bredl and Franziska Rohrbacher.

Other questions remain about the family of Monika Bredl. Was Monika related to August (age 76) and Franciska Bredl (age 70), who are listed as next-door neighbors in the small town of Hamburg, Marathon County, WI in the 1880 US census? Living with August and Franciska were their son, William Bredl (age 30) and daughter-in-law, Auguste (age 21). The birthplace for the Bredl family is given as Baden. However, this may well have been a mistake on the part of the census taker, as George and Monika Aschenbrener are listed as born in Baden in that census as well. Could August have been an uncle and William a cousin of Monika? Could the Wilhelm who died and was buried in the Forest Home Cemetery in Fifield, WI in 1904 be this William?

An Anton Bredl died and was buried in 1895, in the Forest Home Cemetery of Fifield, WI. As noted above, Monika's brother Anton was married in Fifield in 1890. Could this be the same man?

Was Monika Bredl (Bradle) related to Joseph and Frank Bredl, brothers who settled in Eisenstein, WI (just down the road from Fifield, WI) and Laona, WI, respectively. Their father was Johann Bredl, who was born in Markt Eisenstein and died at Frank's home in Marshfield in 1901. Although no link has been found, it is probable that they were at least distant cousins.

Maybe this additional information will prove useful to other Bredl family researchers.
Thank you so much for responding to my questions. It is so nice to find missing pieces to the family puzzle! Some time ago, I also learned that a Michael J. Hilgart, son of Ignatz Hilgart, Sr and Johanna Wiendl (other emigrants from Eisenstein, Bohemia who settled in Eisenstein, Wisconsin) married Anna Wallner, daughter of Jacob Wallner and Franziska Brödl (Bredl?), on January 13th, 1890 in Park Falls when Anna was 16 years old. I had wondered if this Franziska Bredl was a sister of “my” Monika Bredl. I feel certain that she is, given the information you supplied indicating that Franziska Bredl, daughter of Michael Bredl and Franziska Rohrbacher, had married a Jacob Wallner.

Their Anna would have been a sister to George Wallner. I did a little researching last night. Listed in the 1905 census for Sherry, Wood County, WI are George Wallner (head of household and a farmer) age 43, Theresa (his wife) age 43, and children Lewis age 21, Theresa age 15, Caroline age 13, and George age 1. All but the youngest are listed as born in Germany. This fits with and adds to the information that you have on the family of George and Theresa Wallner. Thanks again!
This seems to fit. I have Franziska's husband's name as Jakob Wallner (b. 1831 in Eisenstein, Austria), but no information about their locations. Their son was named George Wallner. I do not know if he had siblings. I do not have anything confirming his place of birth, but I am guessing it must have been Markt Eisenstein because the information I found says George's children were born in Eisenstein. George died in 1954. George married a Theresa Weinfurter (b. Jun 22, 1861 in Eisenstein; d. Dec 6, 1950 in Blenker, Wood, Wisconsin). George and Theresa had at least two children - Louis Wallner (b. Mar. 30, 1884 in Eisenstein; d. Jul 18, 1975 in Blenker, Wood, Wisconsin) and Caroline Wallner (b. 1891 in Austria).

Louis Wallner married Anna Theresa Haasl (b. Oct 18, 1896 in Blenker, Wood, Wisconsin; d. Mar 11, 1945 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wood, Wisconsin). They had at least one child; a son named Emery L. Wallner (b. Jun 12, 1915; d. Oct 8, 1977 in Sherry, Wood, Wisconsin).

Caroline married Joseph Arnold (b. 1891 in Kentucky). They had at least one child; a son named Robert James Arnold (b. Jan 20, 1920 in Wisconsin Rapids; d. Feb 27, 2005 in Marshfield, Wood, Wisconsin). Robert married a woman with the surname Wipfli (from here on out I only found information that gave surnames because everyone was still alive at the time I collected it). She apparently married a man with the surname Mann. They had a daughter who apparently married a man with the surname Diebel and they apparently have four sons together.

I gathered this information when I had a subscription to ancestry.com. I did not adequately document where all the information came from. Some came from census records or other records. Others came other family trees.

This is exciting! Since posting my original message, I have learned (through a Czech researcher) that, according to church records, Monika did have a sister named Franziska, who was born September 6, 1840. That would make her 21 at the time her child was born. On Franziska's birth record is the sign for deceased and the notation "unhliska Wollner 1936 Amerika" . This has been translated to mean that she died in America in 1936 and that her married name was Wollner. I don't know whether she married him in Markt Eisenstein or in this country or when she emigrated. Does this information fit with "your" Franziska? Where did she live? What was her husband's name? Can you tell me more about their descendants? Was their son born in this country? I look forward to hearing more! (Please note that I have a different e-mail address, but I am the author of the original message.)

I have a Michael Bredl and Franciska Rohrbacher in my tree as the parents of a Franciska Badle. Unfortunately, I do not have any dates or locations for her. The best I have is that her spouse was born in 1831 and she had a son in 1861. If this is correct she would be an older sibling of Monika Bredl. Hope that helps a little.

Looking for Jerome Aschenbrener of Lam, Germany in the Bavarian Forest (close to Czech border) who married Mathilda Niggel in Pittsburgh in 1885. They married in St. Peter's church on the south side. LDS has his named spelled wrong and they have Lam spelled as Somm. I have seen original church entries and mine is correct. I am also related to Aschenbrener's from Lam.

Aschenbrenner & Bredl (Bradle) Families from Markt Eisenstein, Bohemia

Hello,

I am searching for siblings of my great-grandparents, George Aschenbrenner (b 1850) and Monika Bredl (Bradle) who were born in 1850 and 1855 respectively in Markt Eisenstein in Bohemia, on the Bavarian-Bohemian border. They immigrated to the United States in 1877. George and Monika first settled in Hamburg, Wisconsin and later in Stetsonville, WI. George’s parents were Andreas Aschenbrenner (born June 11, 1802 in Markt Eisenstein) and Katharina Artmann (born abt 1808 in Markt Eisenstein). Monika’s parents were Michael Bredl (born July 19, 1808 in Markt Eisenstein) and Franziska Rohrbacher (born April 8, 1817 in Panzer, nr. Markt Eisenstein). I suspect siblings or other family members may have immigrated as well, although I have found no confirmation to date. I am sure that the records listing the children of Andreas and Katharina Aschenbrenner, as well as Michael and Franziska Bredl, are in the Pilsen Archives in the Czech Republic. However, these records are difficult and expensive to come by. The parish records for Markt Eisenstein, available on microfische through the LDS Family History Center, only go up through 1808. Does anyone have this information? Thanks for any assistance!

Susan
Dear Terri,
I have got a pedigree of family SCHREINER and ASCHENBRENNER. Before the Second World War the family was located in Czechoslovakia(Bohemia). The family has German routs and lives now mainly in Germany.
I know there lives a branch of the Aschenbrenner/ Schreiner in Wisconsin. We lost touch when my grandma Anna Aschenbrenner (born in Seewiesen (now Javorna)close to Klatovy, Czechoslovakia at that Time Austria, 28 MAY 1879) diet. There are some pictures but no surnames available.
I know my grandmother was in touch with a relative who used to be an aunt ore a cousin.
She was married and hat fife children (Ethel, Edwin, George, Alfred and Ambros). There is also a picture with her brother Joseph and his wife. According to the pictures the family was running a market garden or something similar. The pictures I refer to are done in the forties or fifties.
If your bell is ringing I would be pleased to provide some copies of the pictures and my pedigree which goes back to 1767 and contains 122 ancestors/relatives.
Dietrich Schreiner : dietrich.schreiner@daimlerchrysler.com
Hi,

I am not sure where Catherine Zimmer family is from, all I know if that this Catherine Zimmer was born in Chicago in about the year 1880. According to the baptism records other Zimmers listed are:
Anna Maria Zimmer
John Fred Zimmer
Jacob Zimmmeer

It is possiable that they did come from Luxemburg area. My Grandmother parents were from around that area .

Not sure if that helps or not but I will keep your name on my list and see if somewhere down the line I find her side of the family.

Have any more question let me know,

Kathy

Aschenbrenners Rhinelander Wisconsin

I am searching for information regarding Joseph(b.1860) and Louis(b. 1892) Aschenbrenner. These are my great-grandmother's father(Joseph) and two brothers (Louis and Joseph). These three men left Plattsmouth Nebraska around 1920 and moved to Rhinelander, Wisconsin to be with other Aschenbrenner relatives in Wisconsin. After they left Nebraska I can find nothing regarding them. Does anyone have any information about Aschenbrenners in Rhinelander Wisconsin? Thank you, Rebecca

aschenbrenner

I'm looking for a family connection between two Aschenbrenner women. Elizabeth (gggg-grandmother)married George Coon of Lincoln, North Carolina around 1800. Barbara married John Seagle around 1795 also of North Carolina. Elizabeth and George had a son George (ggg-grandfather). Barbara and John had a daughter Elizabeth (ggg-grandmother). George Jr. married Elizabeth Seagle on March 21,1832. I think that Elizabeth and Barbara were sisters but since I'm not sure I would like to hear from anyone who might have the answer and if they are related, who were their parents?

I'm trying to find Joseph Zimmer (my Great-Great Uncle), who immigrated to Chicago from Luxembourg. If I have the right one, he has three children, John (b.1904), Catherine (b.1906) and Michael (b. 1908). My great-grandfather and his brother (Joseph) had some sort of falling out. Th rest of the family stayed in Luxembourg and did not have children. That's all I have for now.

Joni,
My grandmother was Lillian Aschenbrenner, My father's mother.Lily was Harry's twin and they were the youngest of the Aschenbrenner siblings. This would make us 3rd cousins(?).
My great-grandparents (your great-great-grandparents) are buried near my father's and grandmother's graves in the old section of Mt Royal Cemetary in the North Hills section of the Pittsburgh suburbs.
My father Hugh Boyd, was the youngest of three sons of Lillian and Richard Boyd, Who divorced in 1928, I believe.
My father stayed with his mother and grew up on the Northside of Pittsburgh, while his two older brothers (John and Wendel ) moved with their father (Richard) to the Cleveland area.
Lillian died in 1938 from Scarlet Fever at the age of 36. My father passed away in 1990 from cancer.
Great- grandfather Wensel, has an inscription on his headstone (My mother has a photo of the grave ) that reads Born 1863 those are the only details that I know of them.
Harry, Lily's twin brother is buried along with his wife(?) in Mt Troy cemetary, on Mt. Troy Road in the Mt Troy section of Pittsburgh.
My father, back the 1970's contacted a cousin or aunt named Hilda Hartel in Wisconsin who, I believe, was related to Laura. I could be mistaken about this.
I now live in Maryland, but most of my siblings live in the Pittsburgh area.If you need more details about finding the gravesites please e-mail me at Joycebeb@aol.com.
Hope this helps!!!
Regards, Bruce Boyd
