Hello-
I am related to Truman Arnst of Madison County, NY. He is my 4g-grandfather. I have a living relative that may be helpful in identifying some in the photos of Truman Arnst so please do send the link to the photos!

PS. I am actually going to be in Madison, NY on Sunday, Aug 10th to do research at the Historical Association on South Street.
Photos of Arnst relatives in Madison County, New York

My brother bought two old photo albums at an estate sale in Morrisville, Town of Eaton, Madison County, New York. The house had once belonged to Adelbert and Allice Marie Bliss. Some of the items in the sale once belonged to local author Harry Hart. A few of the photos are identified, but most are not. I am trying to put names to the 60+ faces that are not named. Family photos that are identified are Aunt Frank Jones, Stella Bliss Hart, Bertha Bliss Willard, Ella and Nellie, daughters of Carrie ARNST Moon, Chauncey Bliss and Matthew Jones. Memorial cards for Eliab Bliss, Rhoda Bliss and Mrs. Louise Bliss are in one album. Two photos of family friends, Clara DeWitt and Eva Patterson Scott are also there.

All but two of these photos were taken in a studio, as opposed to family snapshots, and are from late 1800's to early 1900's. I'm looking for living descendants of John Hart (1837-1915), William Bliss (1840-1924) or Truman ARNST (1825-1898) or anyone else who might have photos that would help to identify the people in our albums

Any help or suggestions for making identifications are certainly welcome!
I've copied and done some restoration to the photos and posted them online. If anyone is interested in helping identify them, let me know and I'll send you a private email with a link.

Thanks for any help
Fay Page Lackey
Hi
I am also related to this line. My Grandfather was Victor Melbourne Ponninghouse. I am very intereted in any information you have on the Arnst family - especially your message re emigration from Germany to Russia.
Also I am trying to track down the birth plae of Catherina Margereta Hansen in Denmark. I have recently had my DNA done and it has indicated some Sami orgins - I thought Catherina was the most likely ancestor. Any other ideas?
Cheers
Esther Fitzpatrick

Hi,

I just read your post on Ancestry. I have a fairly extensive descendant report for the Arnst family of Warenburg Russia. They originally came from Germany to Russia around 1765. Do you have any other information on Jacob's date of birth, his parents, his wife's maiden name.

Waiting to hear from you

quiltz122

May have posted this in the Mecklenburg section a few months ago. Don't recall, but I had run across the Gaszow and Dankwardt families and had made some copies of the records. Was cleaning out my stack of photocopies and thought that I would doublecheck to see if you had pursued the information any further since then. I did a google search to find out if there was anyone else researching this family that might be able to use this information and ran across this post. The surname of your ancestor's wife was Ahrens not Arnst. They married on 12 Oct 1858, Joachim Martin Dankwardt to Anna Maria Sophia Ahrens. These lines can all be traced based on this marriage record.

Thanks,

Robert Albert
unfoldinglineages@prodigy.net
Hello, Hoping to hear from someone.. I am looking into the arrival in NZ of my Grandmothers' Grandfather by name of Hermann Arnst who arrived Lyttelton Dec 1873 (from Hanover Germany) then married Catherine Hansen Feb 1874. My Great Grandfather was one of his sons by the name of Fredrik (I can still remember seeing him when I was a child in Ashburton). My Grandmother Betty was one of his 5 daughters. I have found a photo online of a wedding taken 1898 in Christchurch under "Deutsche Kirche (the German Church), corner of Montreal and Worchester Streets, Christchurch. Can anyone shed any light. With Thanks, Sarah Jamieson-Bas, Invercargill.

I'm preparing a wedding gift for one of my cousin's daughers, and my cousin's grandmother was named "Amelia Arnst", and was a Russian-German. She was born in 1906, possibly in Russia. She married a George Klemm and lived in Fresno, California until her death in 1961. How is the Amelia Arnst you are referring to related to you?
I am looking for information on the Arnst family that ended up in Saginaw, Michigan. My father was born to Rudolph and Barbara Arnst in 1972. I have been told that my grandfather came from Russia when he was a boy. Unfortunately, both of my parents have passed away and I am left with a lot of unanswered questions of where we come from. If anyone has any information, I would truly appreciate it!

ARNST

Yes I agree the Arnst name seems to be originated from the Ernest name. I have written to several Arnst families in Germany who tell me their families were German or Prussian. They walked to Russia when her borders were opened in the time of Katarina II approx 1763. They were exiled during the war and after then expelled back to Germany. I am looking for the families of Harry and Meta or Martha Arnst who emigrated to USA from London during the 1890's to early 1900's. Harry's brothers and sisters came out to New Zealand and contact was never kept between the families we only know that they went to the states and as Harry's family is still in London showing on the 1881 census it could only be after this. My Arnst family originally came from Uchte, Hannover,Prussia.
Sarah Carrick m Frank Arnst lived in IN,MI

The only Arnst information that I have goes like this.
Sarah Carrick daughter of Levina Wilson b. Sept. 1823 Logan Co.,OH, married Emanuel Carrick 1843, Elkhart, IN. Levina Wilson Carrick died May 5, 1902, while visiting her daughter, Sarah Carrick Arnst. Sarah and her husband Frank Arnst, were living at that time in Michigan City, IN. I do not know when or where they were married.
The City Directories from Michigan City,IN, list the Arnst family from 1896-1910.
These are the names of I believe their children:
Maud Arnst
Effie Arnst
Myrtle Arnst
Grace Arnst
Melissa Arnst
A newspaper article dated Feb. 2, 1916, has Sarah Arnst living in Fruitport, MI, on her way to visit daughters,Mrs. A. Van Riper, in Clinton,Iowa, and daughter Mrs. A.L. Graham in Michigan City, IN.
That's all I know at this point, about this Arnst family. I would be interested to hear from anyone who descends from this line.
mjw@blazenet.net
