• "Funeral services for J.S. Arnold, Sr., who died Saturday morning,will be held from the family residence, 62 Fearnway,, today at 3:30 p.m., under the direction of Rev. Gardiner C. Tucker, pastor of St. John's Episcopal Church. ...
"[Arnold] was the oldest shoe merchant in the city at the time of his death. He had been in business on Dauphin Street for 48 years and had succeeded the A.& F. McGill firm, founded in 1840.
