Hello there, I have recently purchased an old home in Liverpool Queens County. When doing title work on the property I came across the name John Arabian. This was circa 1875 - 1888, I dont have my notes with me. Accoding to records I could found he lived in liverpool for a short time and shows up on the Census records for the area in 1881. He is believed to have been born in 1846 in Arabia and was occupied as a Barber, I also found reference to him being a match maker, he is said to be married but his wifes name is not given. He lived in a household with Luean Turner a german widow, and William Berry a french male from Algeirs. Does this sound familar to anyone? I was wondering what became of John, he defaulted on his mortgage and his property was sold at auction. We are now restoring the house to its original charm and I have managed to acquire a few original documents that make reference to John

Hello- this is a reply to a previous message posted a couple of years ago ( 2004 I believe ) regarding a John Arabian who was acquainted with a William Berry in Liverpool Nova Scotia. I believe that the person posting the message was restoring an old house that John Arabian had occupied. The William Berry who was mentioned was probably my great grandfather; the spelling of the last name was no doubt changed over the years since my last name is Barry. I would be very interested in hearing from the individual who has information regarding John Arabian, the house or William Berry. Thanks very much . Eileen Barry

Hi- this is too funny to get a reply after so long .Our information search was to locate the background of our grandfather who had been placed in an orphanage in Halifax Nova Scotia. His name was Peter Barry and he died in 1950 in Antigonish. So maybe our information isn't too accurate . It does make me kind of wonder how many Peter Barrys there would be around .However I would be interested in exchanging information - my Email address is eileen.barry@ottawacatholicschools.ca

Eileen,
I see that we are both checking the same ancestry tree.
I have been trying to obtain more info on John Arabian,
William,Mary, Mary Jane and Peter Berry.

Peter is the closest I have found ,so far, to be our Peter Barry (birthdate wise). The next two census have Peter Barry in Halifax and Morristown.

John was my great grandfather. He in fact lived in Liverpool in this time period. I have been trying to find out more about him. He moved to the US in the 1880's or 90's. Ended up in Gloucester, where he was a barber. He died in 1919 according to my information. Is there any way we can exchange the information that you have

Hello,
John Arabian was the second husband of my great grandmother, Mary Virginia Chaveneau. She was french Canadian, her parents were Pierre and Jeane. She and William Barry (my great grandfather) were married in 1876 in Halifax. They were acquainted with John Arabian who was working as a barber in Liverpool Nova Scotia. Mary and William Barry had two children, Mary Jane and Peter Joseph. William and Mary separated and William took Peter, Mary kept Mary Jane. William died in Halifax in 1883 and Peter was put in an orphanage where he grew up. Mary married John Arabian in August 1884 and they both emigrated with Mary Jane (Barry) Arabian and Arthur Arabian in August to Gloucester Mass. We cannot trace Mary Jane beyond the arrival in Gloucester in 1884 but have lots of information on Mary V Arabian's first son Peter J Barry. We also have a fair amount of information about John Arabian when he lived in Liverpool, NS. If you would like more information please let me know.
