I'm just curious how many Aquilina's there are in the world. Not a very common name. I know I have family in Malta, but unsure of who and where.

Aquilina, Malta

hi pattie, yes the surname aquilina is pretty common on our small island, malta, and there are quite a few different families, with that name. a you can imagine the surname was imported from italy they say from the town of AQUILIA and carried on. my father was born in sliema, malta, in the year 1900, and i was born in the same town in 1942, we were 6 in the family and i have six children five boys and one girl and all living in the u.k. so you can see the surname aquilina will be carried on in england. hopre i can be of more help my webb page is

Hello Vincent, I appreciate you responding to me. I've always had such a great interest in my heritage, especially because when I tell people I'm of Maltese descent, many people have no idea what or where Malta is!!!
My grandmother,Evelyn, who has been deceased for 12 years, was born in 1901 in Sliema (sp)and her maiden name was Fenech. Her husband, John was born in the late 1890's and was born in Ormi (sp). Small world, isn't it? I will find out some more information from my father if he can remember!! His name is Paul and he's 65 years old. He was born in the United States, but his two older sisters were born in Malta.
I saw your Web page!!! How interesting, a broadcaster because that is something that I started to persue but unfortunately didn't finish. Do you work for a TV station?
I'll end here. Take Care !! Patty

I'm still so thrilled that I could possibly be corresponding to a relative over there in Malta!!! Its pretty exciting.
We have PBS here also, its pretty educational and there are alot of childrens programs.
Have you ever been to the United States at all? One day, before I leave this earth, I want to get to Malta.
My father unfortunately doesn't remember too much of his family's background, but he said one of his older sisters would, so I'm going to call her one day over the next week or so and ask her a bunch of questions. I did find out that the relative of mine that moved from Malta to Australia is from my grandmothers side of the family so her last name wouldnt' be Aquilina. My aunt married someone named Frank Mifsud, and he was born in Malta also although I dont' know what part. Is Mifsud a common name at all?
I'm also impressed at how well you know English...do they speak both languages there?
I used to hear my father and aunts talk to my grandparents in Maltese but since they're both gone, they don't speak it anymore. I think its a shame.
Okay, I better go. Talk to you soon!! :-)

unfortunatley our language is not spoken a lot by those who hve migrated to other countries, of course for some through no fault of their own, maltese is not spoken by so many people, only by the natives themselves, for exam;le in all the 20 yers i lived in england i did not speak more than a dozen words in maltese, and , that through anger, lol,. i am glad to say that my brother in melbourne, australia, still does his best to teach maltese to those who want to learn, and keep up the language going, therefore he goes to school and teaches maltese and the catholic religion. pbs you listen to is not from malta it must be astation that happens to have the same name as ours here in malta. if you would like to listen to some maltese language and also some maltese records get this webb page
you will listen to programs direct from malta. enjoy and see you on here soon please convey my regards to yours.
