Spanish, no. Originally, the Bible: Aquilla and Priscilla. Have found in 19th century Ireland. Was my paternal grandfather's given name, which he shortened to Quilla. Unconnected, but of interest, Quechuan (S. America) for "moon".

Family name: Sumpter Quilla Porter. Anyone with info concerning either of given names, please respond.

It is also a Americanization of D'Aquila which is Italian, certainly Sicilian.

Aquila originates from Italy and was originally L'Aquila based on a city in central Italy. The Godfather movie showed that when immigrants came to the states, they were often forced to drop thier last name and take on the name of the area they were from. This was actually quite true. Aquila is also a constallation of an eagle. Aquila means Golden eagle.
