I would like to discover whether or not Salvador's wife's maiden name was McDermott. I am researching my grandfather, Peter Bernard McDermott, and Margaret McDermott was his sister. The California Death records is what led me to believe Margaret was married to Salvador. If there are any living members of Salvador & Margaret's family out there, I'd love a chance to find out more about this McDermott family whom I never knew.
Thanks,
Patty (McDermott) Hardwicke

Yes, this is the family I'm interrested in. Margaret McDermott was born in Butte, Montana. She would have been my great-aunt, but my grandparents divorced when my dad was only five. Dad's father, Peter Bernard McDermott, passed away in 1954 at a young age. My father passed away in 1979, at the young age of 49. As I understand it, Sal and Margaret contacted my father here in Florida in the late seventies and wanted to take my parents on a cruize. Sal had trouble taking time from work and the trip was canceled. Did you know these people?
Thanks,

With the assistance of cousin Carlos Apablasa I compiled a history of the early Apablasa family. Carlos and my wife have a genalogical connection through Juan Apablasa who came to Los Angeles from Chile about 1835. I never met Sal or his wife, in fact they had died before I became interested in the family's history.

From the bits of news found on searches, the Apablasa family sounds like a family who needs it's history told. As I understand, it was this family that leased land that later became Chinatown, to early American Chinese families ( who were not allowed to own land themselves.) How can I read the history you compiled? Is it in a book, on a website, or can you send it to me through email? I neglected to answer your question regarding the spelling of "McDermott". This is the correct spelling, and although there are many variations in different lineages, this is the first time I've seen it spelled "McDermet". I have my gedcom published on "Gencircles" under my name. You can find it with a search of Sal's name.

Thanks again,
Patty Hardwicke

I regret that I first have to extract the Apablasas' history from the overall family history. If you will bookmark my website I will eventually get the Apablasa history online to the third generation. On that basis this probably excludes Salvador and Margaret. No living person's name will appear in my Apablasa family history.
