• "SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Mrs. Mary Shipman Andrews, noted author and wife of Judge William S. Andrews, retired judge of the New York state court of appeals, died tonight. ... Mrs. Andrews was best known for 'The Perfect Tribute,' a story of Abraham Lincoln and a dying Confederate soldier.

"The story first appeared in Scribners' in 1905, and then was published in book form, 600,000 copies being sold. She was born in Mobile, Ala., the daughter of the rector of Christ Church. She grew up in Lexington, Ky., where her father took another pastorate. ...
