I'm so sorry that you're just now getting my response, but Ancestry didn't notify me until today of your message.

Oh my, David was your great, great grandfather. Do I know you? He is my third great grandfather. My lineage comes down through Nancy Caroline Ames, who was my second great grandmother. Sarah Ann was my great grandmother.

No, as of today, the Stafford Ames Society has not uncovered any information that would lead them to him. As one relative stated, he just appeared one day. Then, he left us with no clues. They had one donor for a DNA, but the results were not conclusive. They are looking for assistance so they can put a professional on this case.

Before retirement, I was a researcher. This has been quite helpful bringing all the pieces of the puzzle together.

I suspect Winary Jane Scantlin is an ancestor as well. Are you looking for her, too?

It is our hope that when the 1940 census is released, we'll find clues to help us in finding more of our ancestors.

As for David marrying twice - there is a story here, which hasn't been cleared up yet, so now I know nothing.

However, Richard Price, Phoebe Killer's husband, appeared to have been married twice. However, after much investigating, it appears we have the wrong Richard Price attached to Phoebe.

We are all going in circles with David Ames, Richard Price, Phoebe Killer, and my grandmother, Daisy June Sheets. I'm sorry I cannot further your search, but wish you luck. Nadie
