Unfortunately I can't be absolutely positive. All I've been able to do is to employ two researchers along with my own research, which includes copies of the registers in Salt Lake City LDS library and make an educated guess. The naming patterns of my 2x great grandfather (David Ambler's) children have provided clues as well.
Also I've never been certain that the David Ambler who was christened at Queenshead Bapteist Church is my David Ambler. The approximate birth time is correct according to the ages given in the 1851, 1861 & 1871 census, though. Do you have more info, Ian?

Hello Ross ,
Just adding a few details to my tree and thought anyone with an interest in the Ambler surname may like this information.
It is and inscription from a graveyard in the Union Croft Congregational graveyard in Queensbury , West Yorkshire for a Joseph Ambler. It reads " Joseph Ambler who died 30/6/1927 aged 59 ". I discovered that Joseph married a relative of mine , Ellen Womersley in 1895 and they had two children - Clement b. 1897 and Gladys b. 1900 - both in Queensbury.

Many people have on their trees "Thomas Ambler" as the son of "Decimus Filius Ambler". The book, "The Ambler Family", by Louis Ambler does NOT list ANY children for "Decimus Fitz Ambler" (notice the spelling difference). There is another man named, "Decimus Filius Ambler", mentioned elsewhere, who owned land in Virginia. This can't be the same guy, can it? Could "Fitz" be short for "Filius"? People may be citing this person incorrectly. One person may have made this mistake, and several have transferred this information into their own tree. Now we have many trees posted on Ancestry with incorrect and unsourced information. I am working to resolve this issue, and looking for a credible source which definitively shows Thomas Ambler as the son of Decimus.

I have a Thomas Ambler (born 1827, Northowram) who lived in Fore (near the current Queensbury). He apparently fathered two boys (John ((born 31 Dec 1851)) and Seebright ((born Dec 1855))) with a Hannah Kershaw (born 1821 in Northowram)(my GG Grandmother). While John took the mother's surname (Kershaw), Seebright took his birth fathers name (Ambler). I don't believe that Thomas and Hannah were married. Hannah later married Thomas Farnnel(4 Dec 1870)in Halifax. John Kershaw is my Great Grandfather (and namesake),
Any information on this branch of the Ambler family would be appreciated

Sarah Ambler was born on 10/25/1721. She was the first child of Joseph Ambler and Ann Williams, and was born before the homestead was acquired. She was presumably named after Sarah Jarmin, her father's mother. Sarah married Robert Roberts at Gwynedd Mtg. on 11/11/1742. Robert was the son of Cadwalader Roberts and was born 10/18/1719. He was a carpenter by trade. He died the latter part of 1760, leaving a will dated August 14, 1769, in which he named Edward Ambler, brother of Sarah as Executor.

Info. from p. 10, The Ambler Family of Pennsylvania by Frank Rhoades Ambler, Sr., published Nov. 30,1968.

Contact me at bridger@atlanticbb.net

I am trying to trace the death of Merritt Ambler, born 1884 Woodhouse, Leeds, West Yorkshire. He married Emma Brooke, one of their children Clifford Alfred Ambler married Lillie Hare, and Clifford died in the Thirsk, North Yorkshire area. Lillie is connected to me, but I am intrigued as to what happened to Merritt and his wife Emma. Any help would be grateful. Many thanks for reading, MHankin

Hello.
Yes, I have a link to AMBLERs back to one of 3 Henry AMBLERs who were baptized at the Mount Zion New Connection Chapel between 1800 and 1806. I can't confirm that my Henry is the one who was b 1806 to James Ambler and Sarah Baxendale. I can definitely prove my line back to David Ambler and Hannah Taylor. David's marriage certificate gives his father's name as Henry. I would be very happy to correspond with anyone with any more info. David and Hannah lived in Thornton and produced 9 children including my ancestor John (Jack) b 1858 who married Ann Hollingsworth. It sounds like I'm in the right neighbourhood.

Excellent find Littlelorn! Thank you for posting.

My 3 x GT Grandfather was one of the "many Ambler families" who helped Louis to research this book. My family hold some correspondence regarding the research and the same member of the family holds a original copy of the book - although I have to say coming from the direct English side of the York Ambler branch it doesn't hold much more regarding the York side than what we have now!

But at least it helped me to keep up the Ambler tradition of being a Freeman of York!

Well done for finding it and I certainly look forward to delving in - you just never know:)
