John Quincy's 15 year old son, John Henry, ran away from home, and enlisted as an 18 year old in his father's unit on 2-25-1863. They both are thought to have participated in the battle at Spottsylvania. much is written of their military records. President Abraham Lincoln supposedly wrote his wife, Betsey, when John Quincy wanted to return to the lines.
John Quincy was discharged and returned to his family in Marshfield VT..
On 5-6-1880, he applied for a pension (Pension Certificate Number 323678)( as he was partially disabled as a result of his wartime service. At the time he applied he was 55 years of age, five feet ten inches in height, brown hair, blue eyes and had a fair complexion.
