Hello,
Thank you for you help with my last question. I am currently interested in John Quincy Amadon. John Quincy was born in Randolp Vermont April 13, 1825 and Died May 5, 1900 in Burke Hollow VT. What I am curious about is his military service during the Civil War. Any information on this topic would be a big help.
Thank You
Penny Martin

John apparently served in the Vt. 1st Heavy Artillery in 1865. Some of that unit was drawn from earlier regiments. See the Civil War Soldier and Sailor System index at www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm. On the history of the unit, see www.vermontcivilwar.org. Phil

John Quincy's 15 year old son, John Henry, ran away from home, and enlisted as an 18 year old in his father's unit on 2-25-1863. They both are thought to have participated in the battle at Spottsylvania. much is written of their military records. President Abraham Lincoln supposedly wrote his wife, Betsey, when John Quincy wanted to return to the lines.

John Quincy was discharged and returned to his family in Marshfield VT..

On 5-6-1880, he applied for a pension (Pension Certificate Number 323678)( as he was partially disabled as a result of his wartime service. At the time he applied he was 55 years of age, five feet ten inches in height, brown hair, blue eyes and had a fair complexion.
