Married at Olympia

From Olympia, Wash., comes the announcement of the marriage of Miss Annetta L. Seyk and Jos. T. Amado, the wedding taking place at St. John's church at 8:30 a. m. on Tuesday, October 28th. After the ceremony, a wedding dinner was served at the residence of Mrs. F. C. Wallner and upon its conclusion the young people left for Seattle and other places on a wedding trip. They will make their future home at Tacoma.

I know a little about Joseph's wife, Anneta L. Seyk. Do you know anything more about Joseph's brewing career? I am interested in finding out the name of the brewery in Guadalajara and about when he worked there.

Your reply was a complete surprise. Thank you for responding and I am sorry it this response has been much delayed, but I only received your reply today, 1/29/04.
Annetta Seyk in the article you sent of her marriage to J. Amado was endearing.
I know very little about the Amado side of my family; my father's side.
I have old postcards dating near 1906 or so that Annetta sent to Keuanee, WI (she was a prolific letter writer). I have 100's of these postcards and some are from the period when they resided in Guadalajara, Mex. Do not know the name of the brewery there, but perhaps could find it in the postcards she sent. Would be interested in finding out more info related to that period and the Amado family from the Guadalajara, Mex region.
J Amado did work here in Sacramento, CA at the Buffalo Brewery while they lived here for a number of years. He died and was buried in 1917 in a wonderful old and beautiful Sacramento cemetary where most of my relatives are buried and not very far from where we live.
Please tell me your connection to this history and let me know if together we could piece more of this story together.
Thank you for your reply and hope to hear more from you.

Thanks for responding to me. I am interested in Joseph Amado because he connects to my brewery research. My great great grandfather, Charles Deda was a brewer in Kewaunee from about 1870 to 1884, until he became sick and then died. His wife continued to run the brewery with her son then a couple other partners until she sold out. On of these partners was a man named Fred C. Wallner. He is important to your lineage, because I think he brought Joseph Amado to America. There was a fire and the family brewery had finacial troubles which caused my relatives to lose the brewery to the bank. Fred Wallner moved back to Milwaukee, then to Waukesha, WI, then to Neenah, WI, then to Mexico. From an article it said he stayed in Mexico for just a short time when he had an opportunity to work at the Olympia Brewery in Tumwater, WA. It was then that Joseph Amado first appears in my research. The wedding article tells that he married Annetta Seyk and that they were the guests of the Wallners. Here is where it gets a little sketchy. Fred leaves Washington to take a Job at the Ruhstaller Brewery in Sacramento. He later becomes the Brewmaster for the Buffalo Brewery in Sacramento. It appears wherever Fred Wallner went, Joseph Amado also went. They must have been friends. I was hoping by finding out more about Joseph Amado, that I would be able to find out more about Fred Wallner. I forgot to mention Fred married my great great grandfather's daughter, Carrie Deda. Annetta Seyk also connects to my genealogy loosely. Her step-mother was Josephine Stransky. Josephine Stransky was the daughter of Wojta Stransky and Anna Cihacek. Her sister, Josephine was married to Charles Deda, who owned the brewery. I am wondering who some of the postcards you have are from and from where and when were they mailed. I know Joseph Amado went back to Mexico by this newspaper article:

The Enterprise, Friday, February 7, 1908

The sad news of the death of little Edward Amado, the two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Amado of Guadalajara, Mexico was received here on Tuesday. The little lad was well known to many here having visited here last summer with his mother who was formerly Miss Annetta Seyk of this city. A severe attack of pneumonia is said to have caused the death.

I don't know if Fred Wallner also went back to Mexico. I know he died in Sacramento in 1937. Could you check your postcards to see if any are from the Wallners or identify when they were in Mexico, Olympia, or Sacramento? Thanks for responding.

Thanks again for a most detailed accounting of my grandfather Amado's history.
I will look thru my grandmother's postcards and see what I can gleen from them pertinent to your inquiries.
Could you pass along your email address since I have misplaced your first email to me that had it on your message. I want to forward your email to my cousins who were raised in Kewaunee, Wisc. and know quite a bit more of the history and may be able to fill in the answers to your questions.
The Seyk family owned a flour mill in Kewaunee and they seemed to be a significant part of early Kewaunee history. The mill was sold somewhere in the late sixties or seventies. I have heard the Wallner name in talks with both Jodie and Carol Kacer, my cousins both born and raised in Kewaunee. These are the two people that could really fill in more of the history especially pertaining to Fred Wallner and the breweries he worked in.
Thanks and let me know and I will continue to dig more into this too. Its a very interesting history.

Thanks for responding. I have another little article that appeared in the Kewaunee paper:

The Enterprise, Friday, September 23, 1904

Death of an infant

Word was telegraphed here Saturday of the death Friday evening of the only daughter, aged one year, of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Amado of Tacoma, Wash. Mrs. Amado was formerly Miss Annetta Seyk of this city.

Do you have an obit for your grandfather and grandmother, Joseph Amado and Annetta Seyk?

my e-mail address you requested is johndevroy@gbonline.com
