David's parents were Morris Alpaugh aka Alpock/Olpock/etc. He lived in the German Valley area of Morris County (1761-1835). His wife (David's mother) was Catherine Rarick (1761-1826). Morris' ancestry is a bit fuzzy as is all of the Alpaughs of the early and mid 18th century. Various reports indicate that at least two brothers emigrated from Germany in the 1730s to NJ but one moved onto Maryland shortly after arriving. His descendants became the 'Albaughs' of Ohio, etc. In addition to the two brothers, there may have been other emigrators like a nephew named Morris who may be linked to your line. I've been trying to sort out the early Alpaughs without much success so far.

My great grandmother was Marilda Alpaugh, born 1861 in Wharton, Morris County. She married Henry William Kice. She died in Dover,NJ in 1951. Her parents were George and Angeline Thorp Alpaugh. After that the line gets fussy with various spellings for Alpaugh. Does any know who George's parents were?

Looking for information on an Ada Alpaugh. She was probably born in the early 1900's. She died in Joliet, Illinois in the early 1970's. She has a brother named Jim Alpaugh that is still living, I believe (if he's not deceased) living in California, and a sister, I think, Hazel that lives outside of Joliet Illinois somewhere. If anyone has info. on the Illinois Alpaughs, I may be able to make some connections--don't have a birth certificate, can't get one. Thanks, Lea Ann M. Hauck

My name is John David Caldwell and your grandfather (Jerry) was my uncle. My father was J.D. Caldwell, the youngest son of James and Blanche Caldwell. Your grandfather and my father were the youngest and 3 years apart. Unfortunately, all the siblings have passed except for Donald Caldwell, who still lives in Salt Rock, WV. He is very knowledgable about the family history. I try to visit once a year and we always seem to talk about the family. Uncle Jerry and dad were raised by Blanche. She worked the riverboats alot so her sister, Mary Johnson, helped raise them. They lived in a boarding house with her in Huntington, WV when they were kids. My dad would tell me stories about when they were kids and how he followed Jerry everywhere.
Blanche had another sister named Osie. I think the other was Josephine. James had another brother named Otis, who everyone called "Oat" for short. I don't know much more than that. Since my dad was the youngest, most of my cousins are older than me and remember more. Jerry's other brother, Paul, has a son named Eric who is very knowledgible about James and Blanche. He remembers them well and tells me stories that his father told him.
If you want more info., I'd be glad to forward whatever contact info for either Uncle Don or Eric. By the way, I know Uncle Jerry had at least 5 children. I've never met any of them. I've seen Jerry two times that I can recall. Both at Uncle Don's for Christmas.

He died March 1938. I think he is buried in White Sulphur, WV.
they had 5 daughters. I believe he came from Germany when he was 10 years old. A family cementry is outside of White Sulphur Springs, WV. I do not know if you knew this. But James brother Neil married Blanche's sister Carrie. They had twins but the babies and Carrie died. not sure how long either lived. Hope this gave you some info.
If you know any thing let me know
Thanks

They were both sons of a Peter and Mary Eick Alpaugh. Peter was an uncle of the Amos Alpaugh you refer to. That makes your Henry (and my Morris) and Amos first cousins, once removed. I have an extensive amount of information on these lines if you are interested.

Regards,

Rick Novak

David & Arabella were my grandmothers grandparents. She lived with them for several years. My grandmother raised me so I knew a lot about her family. I have the names of their children. I located the Alpaugh Cementery in WV last summer. I have the names of the Caldwells, including Blanch Alpaugh Caldwell. E-mail me at agnes.burnett@verizon.net. I met other relatives at the Neathawk Reunion last summer. We will have another reunion July 4th, 2008.

THanks for the reply. Since i had posted my question, i have actually found some information.

I am descended from Blanche Alpaugh born June 12, 1893. From what i have pieced together,

her father-David Alpaugh Jr, married Margaret 'Mag' Vance

David Jr.'s parents were David Alpaugh and Arbella Keys?

Any ideas from here? I would love to know more about siblings for Blanche, as well as for David Jr and anyone else in this line.

Thanks

Hello. I am searching for information about my great grandmother. Her name was Blanche Alpaugh. She married James Gregory Caldwell and together had 7 children (Beulah, Donald, Dryse?, JD, Paul, Roland, Blair Samuel). My family knows absolutely nothing about either either James Gregory Caldwell or Blanche Alpaugh except that they lived around Greenbrier County, West Virginia when they started their family. I believe all of their kids were born around there. Other than that, we do not know any lineage or personal information or such. My grandfather never spoke of his parents to anyone, and he is now gone. We would love to learn something about them. I have discovered that Blanche was born around June 14, 1893 and passed around April 1969. Can anyone help to solve this mystery? It has been rumored that Blanche's parents came straight over to America from Germany, but we have no proof - it's just what has been passed down through the line.Anythig at all on either of the two wold be wonderful - thanks.

I just started working on a fmaily tree and trying to make it as accurate as possible. My grandfather was Blair Samuel Caldwell. Unfortunately, he did not talk much about his family. What i do know is that he was the son of James Gregory Caldwell and Blanche Alpaugh. I would love to be able to trace a little further back or to get information about either of his parents, however, I am finding it difficult as I do not know dates or locations. Any help would be nice - thanks.

In researching my line of Misson from Hunterdon County,N.J. and Bucks Co., Pa.-I've come across a connection with the Alpaugh surname. This is in relation to family of John Misson(shoe/bootmaker)of Three Bridges and Frenchtown, N.J. Requires going thru old files but may be that Alpaugh originated Bucks Co., Pa. We're probably researaching the same Misson family. Email if interested.

Hi Cathy, I couldn't tell what your email address is from your post, but I am related to you - and I have heard about you from my mom (who passed away 1 1/2 years ago) Joyce Macdonell Meinert - my grandma is Ruth Crawford Macdonell, would that be your grandfather's sister I think? Anyway, I live only 1 hour from the family farm site in Miles, Iowa, where James Crawford and Sarah Alpaugh lived. Mom and I have looked for their graves, which are not in any of the mainline church graveyards - I have been working on tracking down the farmer who owns the land now to see if they are buried there on their land. I did find out that the farmhouse they lived in burned down years ago and I also have a plot of the farm fields James and his brothers owned. As I have 3 kids I haven't been able to devote myself to it, but I have done little bit by little bit. We just had a 28 year old man come work for our company, and he is from Preston, where his grandfather still farms. My other next move was to go to the county seat in Maquoketa, but I haven't gotten there yet. I did make contact with the historical society there, tho.

I was wondering if you had ever seen any family pictures of James and/or Sarah? Or how far back your information was on their time in Miles?

I would be happy to talk or to email, my phone is 563-320-3232, and my email is btinsman@tsts.com. I have other details, etc. - but don't want to make this too long. Beth

Hi there, I saw your post re: Sarah Alpaugh, while it was old from a few years ago, I was doing my own research - but I may be able to help you a little with Sarah. She married my great, great grandfather and died in Miles, Iowa. In fact, what I was working on was locating their farmland - they were married for over 40 years. Let me know if you are still interested, and we can share some more information. In fact, I didn't know that they stopped in Rock Island for a bit. I am located only 20 miles from Miles, Iowa.

Beth

Yes, I think we have a connection. My records show that Morris Alpaugh married Anna Eick and they had three sons: Johann Wilhelm, Johann Gerhard and Johann Peter. My husband's line links through Johann Wilhelm (aka William Alpaugh/Alpock), born 1723 in Holland, who married Elizabeth Scharpenstine/Scharfenstein, born 1741 in Tewsbury Township, Hunterdon City, NJ. It appears that your line connects to Morris' second wife. I am assuming that Morris and John William Alpaugh are the same person. If you would like, I would be happy to send you copies of the documentation that I have. Would appreciate it if you would do the same. If that sounds OK, send my your mailing address at my e-mail address. One of my information sources has been, "Early Germans of New Jersey; Their History, Churches and Genealogies", transcripts of which are posted within ancestry.com at http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=6406&am...

These names are so close to my genealogy. I have John William Alpaugh marreid to Elizabeth Eick as one wife and Else Mary Henry. I think she had George (alpock?) Alpaugh who was born 2 Jan 1778 in Flemington, NJ and married Mary McDaniel. George and Mary are my gg grandfather, James Stewart Alpaugh born in 1803 and he married Eliza VanSant and they moved to Fulton County, Illinois where I live and had my Great Grandfather, Sylvanus Alpaugh and then my grandma, Luella Alpaugh and then mom, Jessie Louise Burnett and me. I don't have anything official but have been to Flemington to go over stuff. James Stewart Alpaugh had several brothers and sisters. Does this fit anything in your genealogy?? mjwillis2003@yahoo.com

Dear Margaret, George Alpaugh born 2 Jan 1778 in Flemington, NJ married Mary McDaniel born in 1776 had my grandfather James Stewart Alpaugh born in 1803 and he had several brothers and sisters. His other brothers and sisters were John, Peter, Sarah, Rachel, Elisabeth, and Mary. Now: James Stewart moved to Fulton County, Illinois (where I am from) and I have plenty on him. Then he had a brother named Peter and his children went to Raritan, Illinois. John married Elizabeth Evans, Sarah married Peter Lowe, Mary married Elijah Stout , elisabeth married Joshua Henderson, and Rachel married a Daniel V. Woolverton.
The Alpaughs that I am related to were born in Germany and came to Hunterdon co. NJ and then to Fairview, Illinois, Fulton co. My grandmother was an Alpaugh. Her father was Sylvanus D. Alpaugh and her grandfather was James Stewart Alpaugh who married Eliza VanSant. He was born in 1801. He moved to Illinois in 1832, I believe. (I am at school and don't have all my genealogy to refer to). I can't seem to get into Ancestry.com without paying for it anymore so I was so happy to get an e-mail with the message board on it. I have lots of Alpaugh research - mostly done by Leon Alpaugh of California - my grandmother's nephew.
