Searching for information on my 2x great grandparents, Elizabeth Allwood and Henry Pritchard from the Liverpool area in Britain. Elizabeth Allwood and Henry Pritchard must have been born in approximately 1831. Elizabeth and Henry's son, John Joseph Pritchard was born in 1853 and immigrated to Canada about 1870. Elizabeth and Henry's other son, Harry, immigrated to Australia.

Hello Ms Griffiths, my nane is David (Dave) Saxton, Louisa Saxton was the last child of William Abbot Saxton & Mary Brittle who married 21 Nov. 1804. Louisa's elder brother John (1817) is my 2x great grandfather. Louisa's elder sister Hannah (1824) married James Allwood who was the elder brother of Edmund. Edmund Allwood's 1st. wife was Emma Smith from Hallam. They had a son Herbert Edmund born 1862, Emma died of TB in 1863. Louisa & edmund were witnesses to the marriage of James & Hannah and it is possible that Louisa also looked after Herbert Edmund while his mother was sick. From data I have here, Emunds parents were William Allwood (1789) and Elizabeth Glover; his maternal parents were John Allwood (1789) and Martha Kirk, she was a daughter of Edward Kirk (C.1732) and Elizabeth Strelly.

I am trying to discover the name of Dorothy's first spouse if, indeed, she had one!

She was c.29 Mar 1807 at Matlock, Derbyshire
Father: Thomas Allwood
Mother: Millicent Holmes
The father of four of her children is unknown and they, apparently, took her surname:
Joseph n.1830
George n.1833
Roseanne n.1835
Mary n.1838
But Dorothy also had another daughter who is named:
Sarah Wildgoose c.05 Feb 1843 Darley, Derbyshire

In the 1861 census Dorothy Wildgoose and Sarah Wildgoose were living at Oaker, Darley. Dorothy was a widow and Sarah was unmarried. They were both seamstresses.

The questions are:
Was Dorothy really a widow in 1861?
Were her first four children spurious?
Was her first husband also named Allwood?
Did she marry Sarah's father and if so who was he?

Looking for descendants of Edward Phillip Allwood who married Mary Ann Gill at Port Adelaide, South Australia (SA) on 3 Oct 1884. They had at least 3 children born at Rosewater SA. Mary died 1957 at Cheltenham SA & is buried at Cheltenham with her husband. I believe Edward was a cook on ships sailing from Port Adelaide.

The information I have on the Allwoods is:-
As you say Albert Henry Allwood was born in Solihull in 1857 and married Mary Jane Shilvock in 1885. I know they had at least 6 children, all born in Blackpool, Lancashire where he was working as a jobbing gardener (1891 and !901 censuses). Blackpool at the time was developing as a seaside resort for the workers in the cotton mills of Lancashire and had several municipal gardens. Their children were Harry (1887), Ethel (1888), Mabel Emily (1893), Cyril (1896), Lavinia K (1897) and Albert Walter (1900). I don't know when the family moved to New Zealand but it must have been after the 1901census.
Albert's father was William Allwood born in Moseley, Worcestershire (later in Warwickshire but now part of Birmingham) in about 1831. (I would be surprised if he was christened in Mansfield, Notts - I think this is a different William Allwood) His wife's name was Martha who was born in about 1820 at Bewdley in Worcestershire. They had at least 3 further children after Abert. These were Frederick W (born London 1858), Lavinia (born Wyre Forest 1863) and Harvey G (Wyre Forest 1865). Wyre Forest is about 2 miles North of Bewdley and I think this is where Martha's family came from. I cannot find William's parents but in 1841 and 1851 he was living in Solihull with his grandparents, Henry Allwood, a farmer of 140 acres who was born in Alvechurch, Worcs in 1780 and Sarah born in Dowles, a small village on the edge of the Wyre Forest in 1775. William had an older sister Harriet, born about 1826,also living with her grandparents in 1841.
You may already have this information if so, it should confirm what you already know .
I will send information on the Shilvocks separately

Yes this is our family line. Along with the Allwoods, the Shilvocks are also a line I am researching. With your surname I guess you are from the original Shilvocks (as that name was the original spelling - all the rest were derivatives). I would really like to hear what information you have on either the Allwoods or the Shilvocks. I have got back to about 1730 with the Shilvocks.

George Allwood born 1886 his father Herbert Edmund Allwood born 1862, his father Edmund Allwood born 1831 married Emma Smith 1855, she died 1863, Edmund then married Louisa Saxton Oct 1864, whereupon they have disappeared. I would be pleased for any tips on how to locate either of them and if they had any children.
Edmund's father was William born 1789 married Elizabeth Glover 1815 and they produced eight children. William's father was John born 1756 married Martha ?

Without unpacking my old files I think from memory Hannah Twigg married Henry Allwood approx 1860 ish.
She died around 1865 in childbirth,
Her family were relatively local coming from Tansley and possibly Tissington with regard to her father.
Before that I do not know any details .

Re Hannah Twigg. When did they marry? We have a Hannah Twigg go missing from our family tree in the 1820s, leaving behind an illegitimate son. She came from near Rugeley. Will find more precise dates if get a reply.

Mary Jane Shilvock was born in 1862 in Clent, Worcestershire and is the daughter of Matthew Shilvock, born 1823 in Clent. Matthew is the brother of my GG Grandmother Jane Shilvock, born 1813 in Clent and married to Joseph Salt in 1835. Would you like me to send to you by E Mail all of the information I have so far.

My GGF was Albert Henry Allwood born 17/5/1857 at Solihull, Warwick. Moved to New Zealand, married Mary Jane Shilvock 29/9/1885 and died in 16/6/1918 in Wanganui, NZ. His father was William Allwood born 4/1/1830 in Warwick, England. Christened 27 June 1830 Mansfield, Nottingham. Married Martha? died 1900, Nelson, NZ. Is there anyone out there who has this family tree?

To Ilona: I somehow missed your note regarding the Allwoods in June, 2001. My Great-Grandmother, Jane Allwood b.March 31, 1853 came to San Francisco, California sometime in the 1870's and married my Great-Grandfather, Timothy Pegg Bradshaw. She died in 1929 and is buried in Oakland, California. Her father was William Allwood b. 1824 d.1872. He is buried at Codnor Derbyshire. His father was James Allwood b. 1797 d. 1871. although my name is cox,I am related to the Allwoods through my great grandmother on my farthers side.My Allwood family lived in and around surrey.My great grandmothers name was Florence she was born in Wandsworth.She was the daughter of William james Allwood who was born in 1850 in wandsworth.He was the son of Joseph Allwood who I belive was born in Wandsworth in about 1824.His farther was called Jacob he was born in about 1795.
although I know he was living in wandsworth I dont know where he was born.

Emigrated "Wakatipu" 1889 to Nelson New Zealand. Died Nelson 1900. Son - Albert Henry Allwood b 17/5/1857 Solihull, Warwick, England. Married Mary Jane Shilvock 28/9/1885. Died 16/6/1918 Wanganui New Zealand. Albert's daughter - Lavinia Nellie Allwood b 22/11/1896, Blackpool, Lancaster, England. Married Charles William McConchie 28/2/1918, Wanganui New Zealand. My Grandmother was Lavinia Nellie Allwood, daughter of Albert Henry Allwood & Mary Jane Shilvock, son of William & Martha who was son of William (and I think Elizabeth). I think Mary Jane Shilvock was christened on 6 Jul 1862 at Bromsgrove in Worcestershire, England. Her father was Mathew Shilvock, a bricklayer and agricultural laboure (born 1821 in Clent) and her mother was Harriet Bowater, a laundress, born 1826 in Belbroughton. I don't know if you are interested in the Shilvock line or just the Allwoods.

i would like to know if you are related to my father or grandfather,firstly clarence henry allwood, or clarence herbert allwood grandfather,the latter had i think 7 sons and 2 daughters two sons left england one to australia the other to newzealand,my grandfather was in india serving in the army during the 1418 war later a policeman and laterly a pastor before he died the whole family lived in and around the nottingham area,my father who was also in the army had moved to scotland,where he carried on his trade which was watchmaker.
