Since this was posted I reviewed the 1783 and 1785 Virginia censuses and now I'm convinced that Emanuel's father was Philip. (apologies for doubting). Still, Simon remains as "parent" on the marriage bond. Perhaps a transcription error or an error at the original recording. Not sure.
