Edward, my mother is also a gr-grand daughter of Wilhelm and Wilhelmina. I have been in contact with several Allenbergs, including those from Washington State, but I am not aware of any in Montana. Do you have family tree information, stories, pictures and other information that you would like to share? I am compiling what I have and will put it in a book form, and send you a copy when it is done, if you are interested. I have a wedding photo of Wilhelm and Wilhelmina, but not much else as far as photos. I do have immigration papers, and other documents such as Wilhelm's will. Who was Dorothy's parents? and grand-parents? My mother's father was William Callen who was born to Edward Callen and Emma Allenberg (their youngest child). Emma was the only Allenberg born in the U.S., and was born in Spring Hill (North Side) before they bought the farm in Millerstown. Where are you located, near Pittsburgh?

Very interesting. I have copies of the ships log when they came over, naturalization, etc. I belive that either Wilhelm or Wilhelmina's (Goellner) sister also lived in in the area. My gr-grandmother worked for her Uncle, William Hahn. I have family tree records from Janice (MT) and a woman from Millerstown. I would love to get more details from you on the Allenbergs you have traced.

Rebecca,
The records I have don't have a birthplace (city) for either Wilhelm or Wilhelmina. However, I do have her brother's Declaration of Intention, which gives his birthplace as Gr. Holstein Germany. I have not located the city yet, but it may have changed names. There is a couple of books that you can research to find the old city names, but I have not had the chance to do it yet. I have copies of the family tree from two different sources, but their accuracy has not been verified. I will gladly send you a copy of everything I have. Send your address to my e-mail (sanderson@ika.net), and I will get it out to you. I would also like to get a copy of everything you have, including the photos. If you could have actual photographic copies made (at K-Mart or similar) and let me know the cost, I will send you money for them.
Scott

Hi Rebecca,
You were right about William, George and Harry also being born in the U.S., I was mistaken. Wilhelm came over on the ship Australia from Germany and afterwards Wilhelmina came with the children on the ship India from Germany (to location I don't have). I do have copies of the ships logs, including August Goellner's, who was Wilhelmina's brother. I have death certificates, naturalization papers and Wilhelm's will. They came from Tegel Germany which is near Berlin. Janice Allenberg from Montana told me that she was told that the family was originally from Koenigsburg in East Prussia. She talked to a cousin in Germany in the 1970s who gave her the information. Wilhelmina's parents were August Goellner and Augusta Kravit. I am lacking photos, and information on younger generations. So, I would love to get in touch with you and swap whatever we can. My e-mail address is sanderson@ika.net

Re: Allenberg family in SW Pennsylvania

I am a descendant of Lazarus and Johanette Allenberg who emmigrated from Hettenleidelheim in the Rheinpfalz in Germany. The Allenbergs from whom I am descended were Jewish and immigrated first to Cincinatti, then to Indiana, and ultimately to Memphis Tennessee. My great grandmother and two of her sisters went west to Washington, Oregon, and California.

The Allenbergs were the largest Jewish family in Hettenleidelheim. There is a Karl Blum Archives in the town of Hettenleidelheim. Karl Blum was a local historian who created family trees for sixty of the most well-known Jewish families in Hettenleidelheim. I have a copy of the Allenberg tree, but did not see a Wilhelm Allenberg on it; however, Levi Allenberg was from Breunigsweiler and WIlhelm may have been from that town. One of the Allenberg family left Germany to escape conscription into the army. It is possible that he may have changed his name. There are a few Allenbergs listed on the family tree from Germany who are listed as having gone to America/whereabouts unknown. The Archives gathered Karl Blum's papers and manuscripts and published a book titled The Jews and the Two Jewish Cemeteries of Hettenleidelheim. The book has photos and details of the Jewish graveyards in Hettenleidelheim, including photos of the gravestones.

We had portions of the book translated concerning our family, the Allenbergs. If you would like to order the book, I am sending you the name of my contact in Hettenleidelheim, Ludger Becker. His father is the volunteer curator of the Archives. I am also sending you the link to the Hettenleidelheim webpage. I wish you success in your search for your family.

Phoebe Smith

http://www.hettenleidelheim.de/

Ludger Becker
Altleininger Straße 25
67310 Hettenleidelheim

Germany

phone : +49 6351 41874
mobile phone : +491709616708
e-mail : Ludger@LJBecker.de

www : http://www.ljbecker.de

Hi Scott,

I do have fairly good records of the children of Wilhelm and Wilhelmina, including pictures. I'd be glad to send them to you - what is the best method? I am new to this website, so I don't know if there is a way to post documents, or if I need to mail them or email them, etc. Please let me know and I'll be glad to share.

I would LOVE to see the ships logs and naturalization records for Wilhelm and Wilhelmina. I have been looking for them for some time, and can't seem to locate them. Is there a method to post them, or could you mail or email them to me? In the meantime, do the documents indicate where they left from (City, country) and/or place of birth? I am asking because I am currently planning a trip to Germany and would like to spend some time in these towns, seeing if I can find out any more information.

Thank you so much for your help. Please let me know the best way we can exchange this information.

Scott, I am thrilled to see your message! We may be able to really help one another. My mother is also a great-grandchild of Wilhelm and Wilhelmina Allenberg. Her mother was Lucy (Allenberg) Ruediger, who was the daughter of George Allenberg and Sara Sickles. George was the son of Wilhelm and Wilhelmina. My family still owns the farm in Millerstown! I have several pictures of Emma Allenberg (Callen), and some of the other relatives as well. My aunt has the originals, and I have great copies. I know you said that Emma was the only child born in the U.S., but my records show differently - William born in 1886, Emma in 1891, George in 1888, and Henry in 1889 are all later than your date of emigration in 1884. As Mr. Gavalek stated, we can also trace Allenbergs to Montana. One family moved out there several decades ago, and a few are still out there. My question to you is regarding Wilhelm and Wilhelmina. I have little info on them beyond a birth year for each. I would love to know about their emigration - when, where, and especially, from where. I also have the wedding photo of them that you spoke of. My family's verbal history states that Wilhelm was sponsered by a brewery on the N. Side of Pittsburgh. He came over first, and then sent for Wilhelmina later. They came to the U.S. via Philadelphia. They lived on the N. Side for a while, then bought the farm in Millerstown. Rumor says they came from "Germany" but that's really all we know. I would love if you could share your info with me! Please let me know if you have any other questions I could help you with. Thank you so much. This has made my day!

I mentioned in an earlier reply that my wife, Dorothy J Gavalek, was born an Allenberg in Millerstown, PA in 1937. She is the great-grandaughter of Wilhelm and Wilhelmina Allenberg. Both of these individuals, together with other Allenbergs, are buried in the cemetery there in Millerstown. We have traced some Allenbergs to the Northside of Pittsburgh and into Montana.
