RE: CORRECTIONS IN DOCUMENT.......THEODORE WAS ROBERT THEODORE. ALLEN SR. BORN OCT 31, 1912, MY PATERNAL GRANDFATHER WHO RAISED ME AND MY BROTHER JOE. ERLENE ALLEN WAS HIS DOUBLE-1ST COUSIN AND HER NAME WAS NOT WILLIAMSON. HER SISTER MAMIE DONNA ALLEN MARRIED JAMES WILLIAMSON. MAMIE IS STILL LIVING IN FLORIDA AND IS 94 YEARS OLD. I WILL TAG A RECENT PICTURE TO YOU BECUASE SHE DOESN'T LOOK HER AGE BY A LONG SHOT. JAMES W. ALLEN WAS MY GRANDFATHER'S 1ST COUSIN BUT DUE TO HIM, ESSIE, HERBERT, ETC. PARENTS DYING, JAMES WILBERT ALLEN WAS RAISED BY MY PATERNAL GREAT GRANDPARENTS WALTER ERNEST. ALLEN AND LEONA BARBER ALLEN. GREAT GRANDFATHER HAD 1 SON AND THAT WAS ROBERT THEODORE. ALLEN SR., MY GRANDFATHER AND HE HAD 1 DAUGHTER BY A 1ST MARRIAGE AND HER NAME WAS ELIZABETH ALLEN, MY GREAT AUNT. SHE PASSED AWAY IN MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA SITTING IN HER CHAIR IN HER HOME AFTER NOT BEING SEEN IN HER GARDEN OR OUTDOORS FOR SEVERAL DAYS. SHE DRANK HERSELF TO DEATH BECAUSE HER HUSBAND HAD PASSED. SHE WAS FOUND BY A NEIGHBOUR. I REMEBER THAT MY GRANDPARENTS ROBERT THEODORE AND GRACIE KOLB ALLEN WERE AWAY ON VACATION AND I AND MY CHILDREN WENT TO CHECK ON THE HOUSE AND WATER THE GARDEN AND THE POLICE CAME TO THEIR HOUSE TO LET ME KNOW THAT ELIZABETH HAD BEEN FOUND DEAD IN MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA. THIS WAS IN THE 70'S. WELL MY GRANDPARENTS FOUND OUT WHEN THEY RETURNED HOME FROM THEIR VACATION. I DON'T THINK THAT AUNT ELIZABETH HAD ANY CHILDREN AS I RECALL. I'LL RETURN WITH MORE CORRECTIONS.

Re: searching for infor on Harry W. Allen

Yes, Terry is a first cousin, I am the oldest grandaughter of Harry Walter Allen dob 1904?05, His wife was Ival Lucille Carter Allen/ Harry was a baby when left on the door step of the Orphanage "Home for the Friendless" in Hannibal, MO In or around 1909 or 1910 he was adopted by a Harry Allen and wife. I have never found out her name, he went to Hannibal public school til around 7/8 years old. The couple took Harry back to the orphanage, (why) don't know. The adopted mother came and got him at Xmas the same year kept him til after the holidays and brought him back to the orphanage in January. It is noted that he was born in 1905 not 1904 which he maybe thought he was, who knows. All this information is at the library in Hannibal, MO...His home was on "HOPE STREET" how ironic...he was not fostered out anymore until he was 16 years old, when Sheridian and Nellie Calhoun came and got him to help on the farm. They later moved to IA, and Harry went with them. Their son was Eldridge Calhoun. He is now dead, but I do have a letter from him before he died and he could not tell me anything about Harry Walter Allen. A Judge McKenzie from the Hannibal area was going to help me find him, and was going to see about opening adoption records...a letter came to me sadly enough stating that the court house with information of the adopted children were burnt at the court house before they moved it to Palmyra, MO he was very nice but said he was sorry he came up empty handed. I wrote a note to the Hannibal newspaper asking if anyone knew of Harry Walter Allen, gave them my phone number, (this was before cells) I got a call....but I was gone, and the hired hand said he didn't know of a Harry Allen and did not get phone number for them to call me back. I relisted the ad...no call. Today 6/1d5/2013 I had my mother's DNA done today through ancestry.com, her name is Doris Allen Herington. I will be sending this off Monday, at least we will know if Harry Walter Allen is was a native American Indian like he always told his children. If anyone out there knows a Harry Walter Allen, please contact me, Betty Dwiggins or Terry Joyce, my number is 660-651-5031, Terry if you read this please post your number in case, at least someone might contact one of us. There is a number of grandchildren that would like any information that someone might have. I did forget to mention that the family that adopted Harry Walter Allen also had a younger son named Mathew Allen, who was about 2 years behind Harry Walter Allen, my theroy (not spelled right) a couple could not have children, adopted then got pregnant then took the adopted boy back....It is also mentioned that a baby girl was left on the door step of the orphanage later, could Harry have thought himself as this little girl and made up the story of being left on the door step. Not one person really knows, not even Harry...his children, and grandchildren have looked through creaks and crandies and have not found anything about his birth parents. Please help us if you can.thanks!:)

I have no relationship to any Allen family that I am aware of, however there is a mention of an Allen family in my letters from 1834 West Turin, NY written by family members of Joseph Bradford born 1771 Haddam, Ct.

The Allen surname may also be found in association with the same Joseph Bradford family in Lenox and Sullivan, Madison, New York. They are involved with a land purchase.

Further back the Joseph Bradford's wife Martha Miller born 1773 Middletown, CT was associated with an Allen family.

These families appear to share common ancestry. Again, to my knowledge I am not related to any Allen's directly but there may have been close ties in other ways. The Thayer family is also very relevant for this group. Again, I do not know of any blood relation between the Thayer's and the Bradford's but there was such an enduring bond that there is at least one news item about the friendship.

The Bladen County Historical Society has published a booklet
on William Allen and also a listing of known cemeteries with
names in Bladen county. Vol #3 would probably cover the
Allen cemeteries in the Dublin area. Their mailing address
is P.O.Box 840, Elizabethtown, NC 28337. These publications
are probably also available from the Bladen County Library
in Elizabethtown.

In 2001 I started researching local Veterans (1200+) and local Military History. In 2007 I released 2-volume book on subject incl. profiles of as many of the vets as I could get (am now working on 2nd Edition). This resulted in finding that 14 names were missing (so far... will know more once 1921 census is released). I worked with local legions, community assoc. and local MP to raise funds to have Cenotaphs cleaned, repaired and 4 of the 14 names added - was done 5 Nov. Am still working to have other 10 added in time for Nov 2013.

I am curious, however, how you found so many names that were missing from your local cenotaphs?
