I've just been looking through my mother's box of family history and found a transcript of a letter from George Allely Segt, at Meerut Cantonments 1815 to his father Dudley Allely a school master at the Royal Dublin City Militia. It talks about the death of his wife and how sad he and their two daughters. Are.Please let me know if you would be interested in seeing a copy. The family are stated as being in County Monaghan

Saria Luta Allely was my great grandmother, and I attended her funeral in 1956 in Shenandoah Iowa. Her parents were Isabella Johnston and Joseph Allely. The family at the funeral gave me a rhinestone pin that had belonged to Saria. As a 12 year old girl, I was touched to have something that had belonged to her.

Saria Luta married William Wallace Young, and dtheir daughter Mabel was my grandmother.

I understand that the Allelys may have been Welsh and went to Ireland to help fight the British. I believe that Joseph Allely was born in County Fermanagh, Ireland. I am happy to share what information I have. Pictures, too

my George Allely was married to Francis (maiden name unknown) oldest son was Thomas Allely married Marth Turkington in Armagh Ireland came to Ontario Canada 1859-1924 I also found a sister Letitia who married Thomas Greer in Clones Ireland they had 7 children landed in Christiana, New Castle, Delware I found records of them in the 1880 United States Federal Census. I don't know much more, except my great great grandfather Joseph Alley was a brother of George and he was left behind when Joseph came to the states in 1848. He was married to Elizabeth Shannon and had 8 children before they left Ireland. They had 2 more after they landed in Rock Island, IL. I have put together a full history on Joseph Allely and his family. Joseph son Matthew started this history in 1920 and my Grandmother Bertha Alley had save many things about her family with albums and pictures. I received her box of things when my Aunt died. It was full of pages and letters and I put it all together. If I can help you in anyway, let me. I don't know if we are relative or not. If so I'll be glad to share. Laquita Bloom

I am looking for information about my 3rd great grandfather George Allely from Northern Ireland.
During the 1870 census of Franklin Co, Winchester Madison Township, OHIO George is listed with Thomas 32, Martha 24, George 20. George could hardly be Thomas's son, brother maybe or cousin.
I have a 1867 immigration record for Thomas & Martha Allely traveling to Montreal, Canada. Ending up in OHIO in the 1870 census.

George marries Sarah Emeline Crosby of Ross Co, Ohio. For which I'm still trying to find a marriage record for. Also, I can not seem to find any information regarding the death of George Allely. Sarah then marries Daniel Goss, for which I have a marriage record of.

What became of George Allely.

Most Allely's in Ireland probably came from the County Monaghan/Fermanagh area (possibly from France or Wales - not sure).

Would you know if a Catholic Patrick Hands from Monaghan was more likely to have an anglicised name, or could he be carrying the English Hands name? All the best, Joe.

My grandfather was called George. I believe his father emigtared to the USA at the time of the Irish Famine 1845-49. George came to Ireland and my father, Herbert was the youngest of his four children (Florence, George, Edna).
My sister is much better advised regarding the family tree, but if you contact me I can give you her email address.
Also, I believe George Allely's family came from Clones, Co Cavan

Hi,
I'm still looking for information about my GEORGE ALLELY, who was born in I believe Ireland according to the 1880 census of Athens County, OHIO. He was married to Sarah Emeline Crosby at this time. I can find NOTHING about this man with the exception that he was a R.R. Section Boss in the census.

Any help would be appriciated.
Thank Kim
myfamilyconnections2@yahoo.com

I am new to this. My Grandmother once told me any Allely is a relative. My side came from Iowa with known relatives in Ne., Texas and Washington. As I am now retired I am interested in learning more about the family history. I have been told the nutshell of the background is Scotch-Irish. My dad was born in 1912 and passed away in 1983 in Omaha Ne. His name was Harry O. Allely. My stepmother has a copy of a small family tree years old which I am going to get a copy of and try to expand.
Peader Livingstone's Monaghan story gives the Irish for Hand/Hands as Mac Giolla Adhaimh (meaning son of the servant of Adam - the Biblical Adam). It is actually pronounced like Mac Laimh (in Irish = mc layve in English) which seems to mean son of a Hand. Hence the Anglicisation. Also anglicised as McGlave and Adams. Again Livingstone gives this family as hereditary priests erenachs in Aghnamullen West originally

I noticed your note about her address change and was wondering if you would let her know I am interested in sharing some information on the Allely line which settled in Fremont county, Iowa. My primary line of research are the Johnston family who married into the Allely group. As I have not searched you messages very well, I am not certain if this family line is of interest to you also. My data on the Allely family begins with Joseph and Elizabeth, who settled in Rock Island county after leaving Ireland. Thank you for any help and I am willing to share what I presently know on the family.
norm
