Kate,
Thanks for responding!
The children which Henry and Maria had that I was able to document from baptismal records at the Marx Room in Easton are: Joseph (3/6/1808-6/17/1877), Philip (1/14/1810-11/8/1891), John (3/3/1812-8/14/1862), Julia (2/18/1818-1/25/1856) and Catharine (4/10/1820-3/30/1853); it appears he married a second time to a widow, Mrs. Catharine Staehly of Bucks Co. With this latter wife he apparently had one son, Henry, based on an Orphan's Court Record I found at the Northampton County Courthouse (Book 13, p. 424):
"The Petition of Anna Catharine Algert, widow and Relict of Henry Algert, late of the township of Upper Mount Bethel, deceased, was presented, setting forth, that the said deceased left Issue. One child, towit: Henry, who is a minor under the age of fourteen years and has no guardian to take care of his Person and Estate. And Praying the Court to appoint some proper person as Guardian of the said minor. The Petitioner recommends to the Court Dr. Robert E. James for the purpose aforesaid, who is approved of by the Court and appointed accordingly."
I do have a copy of Henry's will (#5140) in which he names his wife Catharine and his children (I did not copy the inventory portion). If you would like copies of the will and the children's baptismal records, please let me know. What you
told me is very exciting: I would appreciate obtaining copies of Erwin's letters, Henry and Maria's marriage record, and Rev. Keller's letters to Henry Algert, if this is no problem(?) Please send a note to my hotmail account (
b_bond42@hotmail.com) and I can supply you with my contact info. What I have been trying to find -- not successfully so far -- is information on John J. Richards: namely, his parents and family lineage, his first marriage and any subsequent marriages as well as where he died.
I am descended from Catharine or Anna Catharine, daughter of Henry and Maria Algert. She married John J. Richards (when?) and died at the age of 32 -- I believe I found her burial info in Hays Cemetary. I believe she had 4 children, one of whom died in infancy. My great grandmother was her child Ann Catharine (8/16/1849 - 1934) who first married James Mutchler in 1869: they had 3 sons -- Charles W., William Floyd and James Edward (my grandfather). James Edward had 2 children -- William Floyd (my father) and Ruth. I have an old family Bible which I believe came from Ann C.: no writing in it, only many old photographs which I would love to identify. In it, I did find the marriage certificate of Mary Elizabeth, dated 1867.
I would like to share information with you if you are willing and interested! Thanks so much! I wanted to gather info for a potential DAR case (I have submitted an app on another ancestor named Melick but do not know if it will be successfull).
Sorry for being so wordy!!!
Barbara
