Hi again Lesley,
Its getting very interesting and feasibly it could be possible for Henry's father Arthur Joseph Alderton to be referred to as Joseph on Harry's marriage record.
I can give you alot more information about this branch of the Aldertons and how they are connected through their ancestors to the famous writer "E Nesbitt" aka Edith Nesbit. I traced the link and have a copy of the marriage certificate.
Thoughts about Henry's war service records;
A link to the National Archives Kew, Richmond, London which might contain Harry's records;
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycatalogu...I think it references some soldiers with surname Alderton, beginning with Bertie Alderton through to William Alderton
(Piece details WO 363/A 167 if the link doesnt work!)
(WO: Records created or inherited by the War Office, Armed Forces, Judge Advocate General, and related bodies
Division within WO: Armed forces service records
WO 363: War Office: Soldiers' Documents, First World War 'Burnt Documents' (Microfilm Copies) )
You are welcome to communicate with me in private - I'll try and send you a private message.
Best regards
Penny
