Albury families from the Bahamas

Hello! I am looking for a few Albury families from the Bahamas. I hope someone has heard about these families.

Joseph Albury who was born about 1760 married Ruth Roberts who was born about 1764. Their daughter Ruth Albury born about 1764 married William Henry Ranger, Sr. on 6/29/1807 in Harbour Island.

Then Ann Elizabeth Albury, estimate she may have been born about 1810 died before 1860. She married Robert Henry Ranger (son of William Henry Ranger and Ruth Albury above) on March 1, 1843 in Harbour Island. They had the following children in Harbour Island: Olivia, Ann, Christiana, George Henry, Robert Henry, Jr. Robert Henry Ranger, Jr. is my 3rd great-grandfather.

I would be forever indebted to anyone who can help me break through this brick wall. I have been studying this family for about 10 years now.

Sorry Bob - I'm accustomed to your search for burial place.

There is a newspaper article about the arrest of his son Fred, in 1917, and a probe into his career. He divorced his 2nd wife and remarried.

The article from 1912, about the death of Col Albury does not mention a military unit. He was a member of City Council and later the cashier of the Beverly National Bank.

I'll keep an eye out.

Ann
(edited to correct first name of son)

Re your message of Jan 2005. My husband's maternal family came from the Bahamas and his ggrandmother came from NH. The grandmother's name was Marrietta Castillo (her married name), don't know her maiden name. Sorry. Frank Castillo was born in Cuba but married Marrietta from NH. Frank's mother was Ellen Albury and her parents were Ellen (Baker?) and Thomas Albury all of Bahamas. So Frank's wife Marrietta was the link to NH. Frank and Marrietta traveled back and forth between NH and Cuba and lived for a while in Washington, DC according to 1880 census. One of their sons settled in Key West, married and my husband's mother was born there.

They must have moved to Key West circa 1870-73. Ellen and Thomas also had a son, Albert, born in Key West in 1878.

Also looking for Albury info in Bahamas. Have little family info, looking for Ellen Albury who married Frank Castillo of Havana. Married in Key West, lived there for a while and then moved to Tampa. All I know is that Ellen's father was a sponge fisherman. One daughter, my husband's mother, was named Martha. Could have been named after her grandmother? Checked LDS, but nothing there.
This would have been close or around turn of the last century.
Looking for Martha (?) Albury born abt. 1860, possibly married to a William Albury (b. abt 1850-60?). Had daughter Ellen b. 1883, son William born abt 1884. They were married in Bahamas circa 1880. Only guess that husband was William because of son's name and William is common name in my husband's family. Husband Wm. died before 1920 as Martha went to live with daughter Ellen and hubby and was listed alone in 1920 census in Tampa, FL

Family records indicate that our family is related to John Albro, who was born around 1616/17 in England. He travelled to America, from Ipswich, about 1634. Does anyone have concrete evidence regarding John Albro's parents? Many sites list them as Henry Albro(1590-1629) and Elizabeth Herbert, however I have not been able to verify this.

My great-great grand parents were Samuel Wolf and Sarah E. Albury. Samuel had a cigar box factory in Key West. They got married in 1866 and had three children, Charles R., Julius Otto and Samuel J. Wolf. Samuel J. married Eugenia Fountaine and Julius Otto married Lenora Roberts.
Charles R. was my great-grandfather and married Marina Miyares in St. Paul Episcopal Church. One of their sons, Charles, was my grand father, who was born in Key West in 1892 and died in Cuba in 1934.
Sarah E. (Wolf) Albury was born in The Bahamas in 1847 and died in Key West in 1886. Could this Sarah be the same one that you mention? I do not know much on the Albury side.
Thank you.
Bob,

In the 1910 census, to be taken with a grain of salt, his arrival year is listed as 1877.

One private tree on ancestry.com shows his full name as Robert William Dowson Albury. Possibly his records might be under one of the other names. I know that the records for my 2xg grandfather are sometimes under Edward and sometimes under Alexander.

Edit - that honorary Colonel title makes me wonder if he served in the Confederacy. It was very common for elder stateman types to use or be called Colonel, when their Confederate service was not as an officer at all.

Have you researched where he was living in the 1860 and 1870 census?

In the 1880, they are in Delaware. By 1900, they are in Beverly NJ. At first glance, I am NOT seeing them in the 1850 or 1860.

There is a William R Albury in Key West in 1870.

If you Google his full name, there is a reference in Google books, from a government publication. I did not dig into it, but I believe it is about owners of ships.

In 1869 and 1876, there is an arrival record for "R W D Albury", b 1840, arriving New York, from Havana.

Ann

Robert W.D. Albury was born December, 1840 in the Bahamas and died February 4, 1912 at Beverly, New Jersey.

His father was born in Georgia (or the Bahamas?) and his mother was born in England.

His wife's name was Georgiana and she was born July, 1849 in England. Her father was born in England and her mother in Spain.

Robert and Georgiana had 3 children; Georgia b.~1873, Fred b.~1874, and Claribel b.~1881.

Robert had a sister-in-law named Louisa Robbins who was born July, 1848.

In his newspaper obit it was claimed that he was an American Civil War veteran, but I have been unable to prove this. He was often referred to as "Colonel" Albury.

If there is anyone out there who can verify his service in the Civil War I'd love to hear from you.

I am not related to the Albury family.

Bob

Hello,

I am looking for help in finding information on my husbands great grandmother.

Her name was Doris Ann ALBURY and she was born on August 22, 1903 in Handsworth, Stafford, she passed away on September 23, 1984. Her mother was Kate Emily ALBURY (I believe her maiden name was JAMES but could have been ALBURY) around 1875 and had 3 brothers and 1 sister. Unfortunately when Doris was 7 her mother would die of heart problems. Doris would live with her aunt Lucy (married name MCLEAN) until she was unable to care for her any longer (Lucy's husband Joseph?? was very sick and was unable to work).

Doris was handed over to a Bernardo home and would be there for roughly 2 years before being shipped to Canada in 1915. Once in Canada she was placed in a home in Peterborough, ON, she would later be placed and removed from a number of homes before finding the perfect fit in Port Hope, ON.

I am stuck on finding out anything about her parents. Her father left her mother and her when she was just a few months old and all we know is his first name is John and he was the local milkman. We have the files from Bernardo Homes and a lot of it is conflicting. We have also obtained her Birth Certificate which has provide little to no new information.

Any help on a connect or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Presently researching Wilton G. Albury and wondered if any of you are relations. He was Inspector and Superintendent of Schools in the Bahmas. He was awarded an MBE in 1931 and I think he died in 1954 and lived in the Western District of New Providence.
