I am an Ahlqvist, my grandfather b. 1912 emigrated from Goteborg in the 20's. His father Fredrik Ahlqvist. I believe may have originally come from Goteborg. He was apparently a foreman in large steel mill in charge of 5000 men (so I was told). Why he sent my gramps to the US at age 16 is beyond me is a curiosity. Anyway, if you have any information about Goteborg Ahlqvist's I'd love to see it or at least know if there is a Fredrik listed born about 1880ish.

Thanks,
Brent

My great grandfather is Andrew Emil Ahlkvist but I have found several spellings inlcuding Alquist. My grandmother is Callie Margueritte Alquist Hunt and her mother (married to Emil "Dutch" Alquist was Lillian MacDonald Alquist.

I am running into some problems finding the lineage as a census shows Emil was born in Minnesotta and not Sweden like my grandmother says and she also says he didn't speak much English so.......I am confused.

My Grandfather and Grandmother, Harry and Gladys, live in Pennsylvania. My great-great-great-grandfather was John Ahlquist, a farmer in Sweden, who immigrated to Conneticut. I do not know dates unfortunately. I was also born in Pennsylvania in 1986, my name is Aaron. My father, Glen was also born somewhere in the New England states, I believe either PA or New Jersey. I hope this helps. If you know anything about any of the names listed I appreciate your input. Thank you!

My grandfather (Emil) (your great-grandfather) came here from Sweden in about 1912. Then, the next year your great-grandmother (Ester) came with 3 children, Martha, Oscar, and Lilian (Lil). Carl was born in USA about 1918. I have more information if you see this and would like to know more.

It is interesting that you mentioned your grandfather's name to be Harry Ahlquist because my paternal grandfather was of the same name. As far as I know, which is not much, he lived on Long Island. His father's name was Axel Ahlquist and his wife became Miriam Ahlquist. Together they had five children, Robert, Irene, Bruce ( my father), Steven, and Axel. They all grew up on Long Island but have since moved their families to the Atlanta, Georgia area, where I reside. My immediate family alone has produced three children, all males. It seems we are growing well Ahlquists! If anyone makes any interesting connections, I'd be delighted to know.

Hi J Ahlquist Mayer

I know it's some years since you posted your message but I would be very interested to know if you have any data on my family tree. My grt.grandmother had a sister Mary Neben who in 1876 in St. Pancras London England married an Eric Ahlqvist/Ahlquist. Eric was a cabinet maker likewise his father
Olof. Mary was born in Germany and her father Henry Neben was also a cabinet maker. From family spoken data i think Mary and Eric may have emmigrated to the U.S.A. I can find no further data of them after their marriage i.e. U.K. Census records. I know my grt. aunt used to write to cousins in the U.S.A, and i believe they were descendants of Mary and Eric. The areas of Long Island and Honolulu have been mentioned.
In grateful anticipation
Angela Smith
Ahlqvists from Fredrikshald, Norway and near Skee, Sweden

I descend from Magnus Johannessen Ahlqvist (a master mason b. 1802 in Sweden) and his wife Helena "Lena" Nielsdatter Berg (b. 1803 in Sweden). They had the following 9 children, all born in the Fredrikshald (Halden), Norway, a border town with Sweden: Johan Magnus, Martine, Grethe Emilie, Carl Magnus, Didrike Magdalene, Alfred Leonard, Marie Elisabet, Julie Augusta and Ludvig August.

Magnus Johannessen Ahlqvist had a brother named Erik Johannessen Ahlqvist who also migrated to Halden and had a family there. It's possible that they were born in Skee, Goteborg Och Bohus, Sweden and that their parents were Johannes Magnusson (b. 1768 in Orgryte, Goteborg, Goteborg Och Bohus, Sweden) and Oliana Jonasdatter, but I don't have solid proof of this yet.

Helena "Lena" Nielsdatter Berg may have been born in Norby, Hogdal, Goteborg Och Bohus, Sweden to Nils Persson and Ingri Mathisdotter, but I don't have solid proof of this either.

Does anyone have information on any Ahlqvist families who lived in Halden, Norway or in the northern end of Goteborg Och Bohus, Sweden? There was also an Anders Ahlqvist who lived in Halden, Norway. He was considerably older than the 2 brothers mentioned above, but was probably also a relative.
Nina,
Thank you very much! Yes, this source is very helpful! And yes, the birth record you cite does correspond with my ancestors. I realize now that I had actually looked at this website several times before, but on the wrong page... http://www.skee.nu/forska/skee.htm
I was dissappointed to find the records missing for Skee Socken, but I did see the link to Hogdals Socken where I also have connections. So now you have pointed me to the right place, and I can't believe that this was right under my nose!!

By the way, are you any relation to Margareta Möller (b. 1733 in Gefle, Gavleborg, Sweden)? She married Magnus Jonsson Ahlstrom, and her father was Wohlert Möller. I believe Margareta and Magnus may be the parents of Johannes Magnusson, who is the father of the child Magnus for whom you found a birth record in the Skee parish. If you are related, I would like to discuss this with you. Is there any connection between the names Ahlqvist and Ahlström?

Sincerely,
Norm Alder

How are you related to Jean Baptiste Bernadotte? I think I come through him by an illegitimate son. I am trying to find Facts on this. He's the only one that fits the discription. My ancester is Andrew Larsen and he was raised by a couple since his paternal father didn't want anyone to know about him. Do you have any info for me. I know Jean Baptiste Bernadotte was a king in Norway and married to Deseree.
Please help me.
Ann

New England Ahlquist Family

I am looking for information on any Ahlquist/Ahlqvist who settled in the New England states of the United States. My great grandfather, Karl Valter Ahlqvist [Charles Walter Ahlquist] born 1867 in Kalmar, Sweden, immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Massachusetts. Two of his brother also came to the U.S...Frederick William and Erik Salomon. I would love to hear from anyone who thinks there may be a link in the family tree. Thanks!

Different Spellings of Ahlquist

Our family believes that our name's spelling changed during immigration. My great grandfather, Nils Anderson Ahlquist came to America in 1869 from Skone Co., Sweden. I am told that this is an "ornamental name" slected or given in the Swedish military - which means the twig of an Alder Tree.
Regards from David Alquest
